OK, I couldn’t resist this one.   My daughter had been wanting a microphone for some time.  The only problem is that she wanted one that actually worked and would amplify her voice.   As I searched eBay I realized this microphone was going to cost us because you need to buy the amplifier/speaker too.  This was more than I bargained for.

While at the E3 Gaming tradeshow in Los Angeles earlier this year, I stumbled across the I AmT-Pain Mic.*  What immediately drew me in was the built-in speaker at the bottom of the microphone.  Brilliant!  This microphone just might do the trick for my daughter.  Now you might be asking, “does your daughter like T-Pain?”  Well, no, she doesn’t even know who he is.  But you can tell from the microphone and packaging that he is a rapper.

T-Pain is a Grammy award-winning  American hip-hop, rapper, and R&B singer, songwriter, and producer.  Throughout his singing career us has used the Auto-Tune pitch correction effect to alter his voice.  It also helps to correct your pitch.  Many other famous singers have used the Auto-Tune pitch too such as Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Cher.

Features:

  • Built-in Speaker – amplifies your voice
  • 6 Beats – choose from six limited varied beats to enhance your song
  • Record – you can record your songs
  • Playback – you can play back your songs on the microphone
  • Download – you can download your songs and share with others
  • MP3 Compatible
  • Auto-Tune effect – sing the the pros!
  • Includes 3 original beats to sing to
  • External Speaker Port – you can still plug into external speakers using a 2.5mm jack
  • Headphone Jack – to keep your voice to yourself, just plug in headphones
  • Sleep Feature – will turn off automatically if not used after a minute
This microphones packs a lot of punch!
Pros:
  • Recording – recording a song is a lot of fun
  • Playing it back – is even more fun!
  • I love the fact that the mic can be used as a speaker, if you have a 2.5mm jack
  • The Auto-Tune effect really makes the microphone
  • Built-in speaker – works great with two volumes available
Cons:
  • I tried plugging the mic into two different computers.  Even though the software popped up, I could not save my song to my hard drive.
  • You can only record one song at a time
  • T-Pain is not the best role model for young kids

A Mom’s Perspective

My daughter has a lot of fun playing with the I Am T-Pain microphone.  She does not know who T-Pain is, only that judging

by the picture and the Auto-Tune sound, he must be a rapper.  She loves the Auto-Tune effect, but even more the ability to record her voice.
I would not say I’m a fan of T-Pain, but I know a few of his songs and they have a good beat.  The lyrics of some of these songs are not suitable for children.  fortunately, none of T-Pain’s

songs are included in the microphone.  The microphone is meant for kids to create their own tunes.  Moreover, having a T-Pain microphone has not caused my daughter to want to listen to his songs.  Phew!
Net net, the I AM T-Pain microphone is a fun toy bringing hours of enjoyment for both kids and adults.  It’s design in clever with the built-in speaker and ability to pipe in your MP3 music as your back up.
If you’re looking for something fun to give to the kids this Christmas, the I Am T-Pain mic is a fun toy to consider.  The I AM T-Pain mic, made by JAKKS Pacific, is available at Walmart, Toys R Us, Target, Kmart, Amazon and other smaller channels.  Currently, Amazon sells the I Am T-Pain mic for $47.39 for the white mic (with free shipping), $39.97 for the red mic (with free shipping), and $59.99 for the Gold mic.  Don’t ask me why the price varies with price, I don’t know.  I do know , however, that all colored mics have the same features.  I noticed that ToysRUs.com sells all three colors of microphones for $39.99.

  1. I'm afraid I don't see a form to fill out, besides leaving a comment, but wanted to say that my niece would love this too, but she (like your daughter) would have no idea who T-Pain is.
