SUPERBOOK & Praise in a Basket

SUPERBOOK

Can you believe Easter is already upon us?  Wow, I feel like we just had Christmas.  Easter is one of my favorite holidays.  I love the time of year Spring comes in, with green hills and beautiful blooming flowers everywhere.  Yes, even in Southern California, we get to witness the beauty of Spring, though our seasonal change is not as dramatic as in the East.

But of course, the number one thing I enjoy most about Easter is the reason why we celebrate it.  Easter is a remembrance of how Jesus gave up His life so we could live eternally and how He was resurrected and lifted up to Heaven.  The power of death could not hold Him.

I’m always on the lookout for different technology resources to help my children learn more about Jesus’ life and how important He is to our lives.  With Easter fast approaching, I wanted to find an app to use each day with my kids to rediscover Holy Week – from  Palm Sunday to Maundy Thursday to Good Friday, to Easter morning.  I also wanted to find uplifting music to help prepare our hearts.

SUPERBOOK App

SUPERBOOK

Last year, my kids and I discovered a show called SUPERBOOK on the ABC Family channel.  It was about three characters, Chris, Joy, and Gizmo…a robot…who go back in time and learn about Bible stories.  It was cute, informative, and my kids really enjoyed it.

Recently, I was searching online for a great app for Easter and I ran across The SUPERBOOK app.  It received a lot of praise and it’s free!  The SUPERBOOK app includes a full texted Bible, photos and videos, Bible Q&A, profiles of famous Bible characters, and more.  As we read along the SUPERBOOK bible, there are symbols in the reading that you can click on to learn more about the Bible character, see answers to common questions people ask, or play games.

SUPERBOOK is just the Bible app I’ve been searching for all these years to replace the young child Bible apps we’ve used in the past.  The SUPERBOOK does not have any in-app purchases, it’s just a great way to encourage your young readers to learn more about the Bible, and what better time to focus on than Easter?

Praise Music

In addition, listening to uplifting and/or thought-provoking Christian music helps prepare our hearts for Easter.  Here are some of our favorite songs we found to download from Google Play:

  •  In Christ Alone   Artist: Kristian Stanfill / Passion Band Album: Let The Future Begin
  • Glorious Day Artist: Casting Crowns Album: Until The Whole World Hears

My kids love music and it’s especially fun to hear the music we listen to in church play at home too.

Family Technology at it's Best

A Mom’s Perspective

Yes, Easter is lots of fun with Easter egg hunts, jelly beans…and don’t forget those Peeps!  But if we’re not careful, it will only be the commercialism our children remember most about Easter.  It’s up to us as parents to teach our children about why Easter is important to us.  We can only do this by being intentional.  Setting time to study the Bible together whether with a physical Bible or an app like SUPERBOOK.  Listening to music and singing the verses together.  And most importantly, talking to your children about your own faith.

This year, I picked up a Google Play gift card from Walmart to put into our Easter basket.  I know my kids will begin thinking of all the game apps they can get with it, and I’m sure they will get a few.  But in addition, we will buy some more praise music to add to our collection.  As my children grow older (ages 8 & 11), I am enjoying looking for more sustainable things, like Christian music, books, and apps that will help make them stronger Christians in their walk with Him.

Happy Easter!
