Chess Anyone? No? Try Solitaire Chess!

By Shellie Driscoll
When I was a kid I always enjoyed playing board games. Some of my all-time favorite games were Checkers, Chess, Monopoly and Backgammon. I liked having to plot my next move(s) to defeat my opponent. Unfortunately, my sister didn’t always want to play with me!
If only the creators at Thinkfun.com had created their addicting and challenging logic game Solitaire Chess back then!  Solitaire Chess is a one-player logic puzzle game that uses the rules of chess in simplified form. You don’t need to know how to play the game of chess because they give you the Movement Rules for this game. They also provide you with hints and step-by-step solutions if you happen to get stuck on a level.
There are 10 chess pieces, a game tray with a storage drawer, and 30 double-sided challenge cards that range from Beginner to Expert. You set the chess pieces up according to the challenge card and then proceed to capture and eliminate all but one piece using only the moves allowed in traditional chess. You must capture a piece with every move, which makes this game a real brainteaser by the time you play the Expert cards.
This is a wonderful game for kids because it builds problem-solving and logic skills through play. Also, adults who want to learn the basics of chess or those that already know how to play will enjoy this game. It is very portable and can be played just about anywhere.
“Solitaire Chess” is also available as an App for your iPhone and iPad for $2.99 and Android smartphone for $1.99 or there’s a free version too.   It won a Parent’s Choice Gold Award for being one of the best mobile Apps that promote fun and learning on the go.
You can’t go wrong with this one, Mom! What better way to learn chess then making it fun!
Solitaire Chess sells for $15.82 and eligible for free shipping from Amazon.com.  If you’re thinking of a fun and practical gift for Christmas, Solitaire Chess is a great bet.
*  I was given the game of Solitaire Chess and the app in exchange for my honest opinion.
