I first found Laser Pegs online. The Laser Pegs brand was a small company, just getting started. I could tell right away they were going to be a hit. When I attended the Toy Fair tradeshow in February, I got to play with them in person. Laser Pegs are a construction toy set with various pegs containing connectors to link them together with LED lights inside of them. Each piece connects into the next one making it light up from a low voltage current. In plainer words, Laser Pegs are simply Cool!
Laser Pegs come in various kits, which range in price based on the number of pieces in the kit. The kit I tested contained 72 pieces*. This picture shows some of the pieces, the rest you’ll see later in my mastermind creation.
All currents and lights are enclosed in a lightweight durable plastic.
You can light up your creation as you build, adding an extra element of fun and pizzazz. You have two options with regards to power: 1.) Use the enclosed Power Base and add 3 AA batteries which gives you more mobility or 2.) buy a Laser Pegs AC Power Accessory Pack which plugs into the wall which saves your batteries for another toy.
Here is my space buggy I created in about 10 minutes. You can see it’s quite colorful. There’s a certain thrill when you construct objects with lights…it just gives the project more energy!
If you prefer to be more color coordinated in how you build your projects, each peg has a color box
on it to show you what color it lights up to.
Each box of Laser Pegs come with detailed instructions to help you build different types of creatures, robots, and vehicles. A visit to LaserPegs.com will give you many more items to build with detailed instructions as well.

A Mom’s Perspective
Laser Pegs are just plain fun. Each kit contains a good number of pieces with different angles and colors so your kids can build literally thousands of different combinations. Laser Pegs are recommended for kids ages 7 and older but my five year old had a blast with them. Because of their smaller size, kids under the age of 3 should not play with them as they pose a choking hazard.
For older kids, following the build instructions available in the box and online provide for great problem-solving skills and analytical thinking. Kids build creations they are proud of. Two of Laser Pegs kits won the Oppenheim Toy Group Platinum Award this year.
Laser Pegs has some exciting new products they’ll be launching in 2012 to go along with their existing kits – besides more new kits, Sound Cubes offer something extra adding a jet, train, monkey, laser shooting, motorcycle, and engine to your creations.
Laser Pegs kits are available online through LaserPegs.com and range in price from $24.95 and $99.95 dependent upon the size of the kit. Some of the kits are cheaper through Amazon.com. The Laser Peg AC Adapter can be purchased through LaserPegs.com for $14.99.
If you’re looking for a fun Christmas gift that is sure to light up your Christmas, Laser Pegs fits the bill.
