5 Gadgets for Moms

Healbe GoBe2

gadgets fr moms

This is one of the most unique gadgets for moms!  We have been testing the Healbe GoBe2 for the past couple of months.  It tracks your steps, heart rate, sleep, calories, etc., just like any other tracker.  It can even track your stress level and hydration automatically (which is really cool).

But most importantly, the GoBe2 also tracks your calorie INTAKE!  Yes, it can assess how many calories you are eating a day…without the need to enter the what you ate for the day yourself.  It’s truly amazing and the only tracker of its kind that has the capabilities to do this.

By assessing the steps Mom has taken and the food she’s eaten, the GoBe2 will calculate her Energy Balance.  Within a couple hours after she’s eaten, she’ll have a calorie surplus or deficit.  Can you imagine having this kind of info.?  It will help Mom to not overheat…or at least exercise a bit more to ensure she does not have a calorie surplus.

Once we eat something, food turns into glucose.  Insulin triggers our cells to absorb the glucose and release water.  The GoBe2 uses its FLOW Technology to measure these changes by sending high and low-frequency signals through your tissue to determine the amount of fluid volume in our cells.

This information along with five activity and stress sensors, helps monitor nine key health parameters that contribute to overall health.

If Mom likes coffee, she’ll find it interesting just how dehydrating it makes her by looking at her water levels.  Mom will know with a touch of a button how she’s faring through the day with her hydration.

The GoBe2 Is water resistant and can be used during baths and showers as well as swimming (except in saltwater).  A single charge can last up to 48 hours and the GoBe2 works with popular apps such as Google Fit, Nokia (Withings) Health, Apple Health, and more.

The Healbe GoBe2 is available right now for $199 plus shipping through the HealBe website.

EyeQue Vision Tracker

The new EyeQue Insight Vision Tracker answers the question, is my eyesight declining?  Or does my child need glasses?  No need to visit your eye doctor, you can find out at home.  With the Insight Vision Tracker, your phone, and the EyeQue app, you can determine your vision as a whole as well as in each eye.

Using the app, Mom can test one eye at a time, determining which way the capital E is pointing.  Seems easy enough, right?  Well it is, until the E gets so small, it’s hard to decipher.  Not everyone can see the direction of these smallest E’s…unless of course, their vision is better than 20/20!

The Vision Tracker is great for Mom and the whole family track their vision over time and record it in the EyeQue app.  It’s also good for testing your eyeglass prescription, ensuring they are accurate for your eyes.  Consider it the thermometer for the eyes.  It’s perfect for kids – to give moms confidence in their children’s eyesight and help them to know whether they need to schedule a visit to the optometrist sooner or later.

Typically the EyeQue Insight Vision Tracker sells for $129.99 on their website, but they are being featured on HSN right now for a discounted rate of $89.95, plus $5 shipping.

Kwilt Shoebox

The Kwilt Shoebox is one of those gadgets for moms who love photos…and which mom doesn’t?  As moms we’ve all had that moment, in fact, many times, where you’re recording your son’s play or your daughter receiving her distinguished award and your phone informs you that you’ve run out of space!  Ugh! I remember sitting in a Jon Bon Jovi concert watching my watching my friend frantically deleting her latest family photos to take pictures of Jon!

There’s never enough space and if Mom has an iPhone, there’s even less.  Kwilt Shoebox is a small 1 1/2 by 3 1/2 box that connects to WiFi at home.  Consider it a personal cloud – once connected, Mom can back up, offload, and view pictures, videos, music, and documents from anywhere using the Kwilt app on her phone that connects to your Kwilt Shoebox at home.

No more “memory full” messages.  No more deleting pictures quickly so you can take pictures of an important moment.  Now mind you, the Kwilt Shoebox fits in the palm of your hand, it’s super small.

So just how do you keep all your pictures and/or back-ups on such a small device?  You plug in a USB or external hard drive into the back of Shoebox.  Then you can keep as many pictures/files as you’d like.  Need more space?   Attach more or bigger external hard drives.

Unlike Box, Dropbox, and Google Drive, and other online storage clouds, this is a family’s cloud.  Files are located on your hard drives rather than another company’s hard drive.  The privacy of your contents remains with Mom, not protected by a limited private policy of a for-profit organization.

Mom can choose to upload all the pictures from her phone to the Shoebox or just some of the pictures, it’s up to her.

Mom can also plug the Kwilt Shoebox into the TV to instantly show pictures from last night’s play, the latest family vacation, and more.  Videos and pictures are loaded onto Shoebox in full resolution. Oh, and there are no monthly fees!

Kwilt Shoebox is available from Amazon for $59.00 plus free shipping.

Circle with Disney Internet Monitoring Device

Circle with Disney is a device you plug into your Internet router so Mom can monitor and set limits on all Internet activity in the house – computers, cellphones, tablets, gaming consoles – anything connected to the Internet.

Now that being said, it’s important to note that Circle only monitors and controls Internet activity from her router.  Mobile data usage needs to be controlled from the family’s mobile carrier.

With YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and other streaming apps available on any device, it’s harder to keep track which shows/movies your children are watching, let alone how many hours they are sitting in front of their phones or tablets!

Although most new routers and broadband Internet companies allow you to block certain sites and create limited parental controls, they are not enough to set up Internet limits and help parents monitor their child’s online activity in their home.

Circle allows parents to filter content according to age (Pre-K, Kid, Teen, and Adult), set online limits (number of hours a day or usage or usage hours), set bedtime restrictions (no access during your set hours in the middle of night), observe online usage (know how long your daughter is spending time on particular apps, videos, or websites).

In addition, one of my favorite features is the Pause button. With one touch in her Circle app, Mom can pause all Internet for just one child or the whole household.  That will get her child’s attention!

The Circle with Disney is available on Amazon for $97 plus free shipping.

Ventev Powercell 3015C Backup Battery

Portable battery packs are great gadgets for moms! Back up batteries are essential these days.  We have tested a number of them over the years. The bigger the battery, the longer charger time.  But big batteries take a lot of room in a purse and can be heavy. The Ventev Powercell 3015C Backup Battery for iPhones (Apple Lightning) or the latest Androids using USB-C is a great solution.

It is lightweight, housed in anodized aluminum, and its 3,000 mAh Lithium-Polymer battery provides 12 additional hours of talk time, 10 hours of internet and video playback, and 50 hours of audio time.

I leave mine in my purse.  I rarely use it because I charge while at my office and in the car. But when a low battery emergency strikes, it’s there.  I left it charged in my purse for two weeks and when I needed it, it was still fully charged, ready to use at a moment’s notice.

The Ventev Powercell 3015C comes with a built-in cable – USB-C or Lightning, dependent upon the model you choose).  It is incredibly handy to have a built-in cord and it’s protected and tucked away inside the casing of the battery.

The Ventev Powercell 3015C with built-in USB-C cable is available for $36.72 and the Lightning version is available for $42.95, including free shipping on Amazon.
