We recently tried out the Altec Lansing BoomJacket Jolt to see if this baby boombox has what it takes to belt out great sound and yet be portable enough to take anywhere.
We tested out the sound, its capabilities, and its claims of total proof against water, dust, and snow!
We found this baby boombox is much tougher and even more relevant in today’s times than its huge predecessors!
Baby Boombox Sound
The Altec BoomJacket Jolt can really belt out the tunes. Great bass and high notes sound from its little speakers.
I can see why both Boom and Jolt are in its name! We tried everything from jazz to rap to today’s popular tunes, the BoomJacket Jolt did well with all sound types.
Beyond the Speaker
This baby boombox has a lot going on. In addition to great sound, it offers a headphone jack and can keep charged for 30 hours.
Even better, you can use it as a portable battery to charge your phone!
In fact, it has a portable Qi wireless bass right on top of this baby boombox! Charge away!
Have an older phone without Qi? No worries, there is even a USB port to charge your Apple or Android phone easily.
I noticed that the BoomJacket Jolt had a screw on the bottom of it so I attached it to my camera tripod to get the sound closer to our pool and higher up. A convenient feature.
There is also a house party feature where you can connect the BoomJacket Jolt up to 50 other House Party enabled speakers to get sound throughout your home or yard.
For some added pizzaz, this baby boombox features LED circular lights with different color modes to make the BoomJacket Jolt stand out. Who doesn’t love LED lights?
Lastly, the BoomJacket Jolt has a microphone button. Press on it to connect you to Google Assistant or Alexa, whichever one you set up.

Seriously, Waterproof?
Yes, the BoomJacket Jolt has an IP67 “everything proof” rating. It can be submerged in water. We even tested it in our pool.
There is a flap on the side that you need to ensure is fully closed before you try it out in the water. We made sure it was closed and popped the baby boombox in the water.
After submerging bhe baby boombox for a few minutes and taking it out, I did notice water had gotten in there. Fortunately, it continued working great.
Although the Altec BoomJacket Jolt is not hefty, it is sturdy and will not be easily moved from the bass beat of the music.
Fortunately, however, it doesn’t sink either. It floats on the top of the water.
I could still hear the music in the water, though, it wasn’t the best sound. I think it’s better suited outside the pool. And if it gets drenched when someone cannonballs into the pool, no worries, it will be fine.
