Baking Perfection with Perfect Bake

We found a solution!  Perfect Bake uses the free Perfect Bake App (Apple & Android) along with a scale and 3 multi-colored, pre-weighted bowls to count grams rather than teaspoons to help you compile your masterpiece.

The Perfect Bake scale connects to your phone (headphones port) via a short cable, to portray on your phone how many grams have been weighed on the scale.  Perfect Bake comes with hundreds of recipes already built into the app.  Select a recipe and the app tells you one item at a time what to put into which supplied brightly-colored bowl.  

As you pour the ingredient into the bowl, the scale measures it and shows you how much have have added on your Perfect Bake app.   The app alerts you when you have poured in the right amount.  Pour too much of one ingredient in?  No worries, the app…on the fly…readjusts the other ingredients and tells you how much more of each should be added.  How cool is that?  It’s nearly impossible to mess up!

We have used Perfect Bake a number of times now.  Most recently, my kids, ages 9 and 12, and I were making the $250 cookies recipe from the app.  They loved being able to pour in the ingredients, waiting for the “ding” that told them they poured in the right amount.

When it came to the flour, my daughter poured in too much.  The recipe immediately readjusted, telling her how much more of the other ingredients she should add.  Instead, she opted to spoon out the excess flour.  She heard her “ding” and the recipe readjusted itself on-the-spot to the original recipe.

As we were putting in the ingredients, I got called away and the kids continued on their own.  They finished putting in ingredients, mixed the cookies, pre-heated the oven, baked the cookies, and cleaned up everything…all on their own.  I was so impressed.  They told me the cookies were delicious!  As I am gluten-free, I didn’t get to try them, but they looked fantastic.  The kids were so excited that they made cookies, nearly by themselves.

Pros:

• Pantry Feature gives you lists of delicious recipes from the items you already have on hand
• Helps you portion your cupcakes – put your muffin pan on the scale and pour the batter, will tell you when to stop
• If you put too much of an ingredient in, the recipe readjusts and tells you how much more to add of other ingredients…or you can simply spoon out the excess ingredient

Cons:

• The three AA batteries you need to insert don’t last as long as you’d think, over time
• The cable between your phone and the scale is short, increasing the possibility of spills on your phone
• Some ingredients are difficult to assess their weight…for example, eggs

A Mom’s Perspective

Perfect Bake is perfect for people who get distracted easily…which can applys to most moms with kids!  I like it that I can start a recipe, go off and help one of my children, then come back and the app tells me exactly where I left off.

When you have a lot of ingredients, a recipe can get overwhelming.  But with the step-by-step instructions and the “ding” when I pour enough ingredients in, the whole process becomes easier…and even fun.

My kids enjoy baking with Perfect Bake and are already planning their next recipe.  Perfect Bake empowers kids to take baking into their own hands…step-by-step…allowing them to make their own creations.  It’s really a great way to learn about baking in a near failure-proof environment…and clean-up is easy!
