5 Amazing Health Gadgets for Mom

Lumen Metabolism Tracker

Gadgets for moms

The Lumen Metabolism Tracker is a remarkable new gadget that helps you evaluate your metabolism.

Metabolism occurs in every cell of your body.  It refers to the process in which your body converts eaten food into energy, either for instant or later use.

Our bodies rely on three sources for energy: fats, carbs, and proteins, with fats and carbs used as the main energy sources.  If we eat excess carbs and don’t expend their calories, they turn into fat.  Carbs are needed for intense exercise, you won’t last long exercising on fat alone.

The Lumen is a portable breath analyzer that uses a C02 sensor and flow meter to see the concentration of carbon dioxide in a single breath.  It will tell you the type of fuel your body is currently using to produce energy.

Working with the Lumen app, information on the C02 concentration and its ranges are collected, creating a personal Lumen Index scale.

Everyone’s metabolism is different, influenced by genetics, age, weight, gender, hormones, body composition, diet, exercise, psychological state, eating habits, environmental factors, sleep, and more.

These factors will influence the way you use specific foods for energy and what gets used for your activity and what gets archived into fat.

By breathing into the Lumen, you will see how meals and activities from yesterday affect your metabolism today and learn how to make changes to reach your personal goals.

By tracking your foods and evaluating your Lumen results, you’ll get a better idea on which foods to avoid while learning about the right foods to eat for your body.

Every person’s metabolism is different.  What works for one person may not work for another.  Lumen will help you make personalized choices that better suit your body.

Available for a limited time on Indiegogo for a reduced price of $249.

FoodMarble Personal Digestive Tracker

Gadgets for moms

FoodMarble Aire is the world’s First Personal Digestive Tracker.  Like the Lumen, it is a portable device in which your breath is measured.

However, in this case, FoodMarble helps you decipher possible digestive difficulties you may be having.

Breathing into the FoodMarble AIRE helps you identify possible trigger components in different foods.

FoodMarble uses hydrogen breath testing to ascertain when problem food isn’t fully digested.

If your body is having trouble digesting food, bacteria in your gut helps to break it down, this is called fermentation.

Fermentation releases small amounts of hydrogen which is absorbed into your blood first, then it transfers it to your breath from your lungs.

The FoodMarble food library in their app helps you assess these components in everyday foods and track and trend results from your tests over time.

The app will give you breath scores and symptoms to help you discover how certain foods are triggering issues for you.

To help make this process easier, you can purchase from FoodMarble extra FODMAP pouches to test your response to four individual FODMAP components, namely lactose, fructose, sorbitol, and inulin.

Upon consumption, you use the FoodMarble AIRE and app to see if you have trouble with the fermentation of these components.

As 1 in 8 people have frequent digestive issues, FoodMarble is a great place to start to begin analyzing what foods or components are causing your issues.

Finally, a way we can better figure out digestive issues ourselves and for our families!

Foodmarble Aire is available now in 3 colors for $159  with free shipping on the Foodmarble website.

Withings Move ECG Watch

Withings has been one of my favorite health companies for many years.  Why?  Because every year they offer products that help consumers understand their health and bodies better.

Their new Move ECG watch, coming out later this year, is the latest version of their health watches.

This analog watch focuses on smart health, not being a smart watch.  It doesn’t offer notifications, a calculator, or turn-by-turn directions.

Instead, the Move ECG watch automatically tracks steps, running, stair climbing, and swimming (water-resistance up to 50m).

It also tracks your sleep.  But its most important feature is that it can offer ECG 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

What’s an ECG?  Also known as an EKG, it’s an electrocardiogram that measures your heart’s electrical activity, basically the signal that starts at the top of your heart until it reaches the bottom.

If this activity is off, it often signifies heart problems.

If the wearer of the Move ECG feels odd, she can immediately take a measurement, using the watch.

There are three electrodes – two on the back on the watch and the other on the ring, which is held during measurement.

The Move ECG can help alert you of possible atrial fibrillation (AFib), a common heart rhythm disorder which can lead to heart attack and stroke.

AFib is responsible for 1 in 3 strokes.  Most people don’t know they even have AFib and don’t have any symptoms.

One in 4 middle-aged adults in the US will develop AFib.

Because AFib occurs at different intervals, it’s difficult to be noticed during a doctor’s visit.  Heart disease is the leading cause of women’s deaths in the US.

Often thought of as a man’s disease, around the same number of women and men from heart disease each year.  Moms need to be aware of this fact.

Wearing the Move ECG, women have a better chance of catching AFib before permanent danger occurs.

Since it is analog, the battery life lasts up to 12 months and there’s no need to recharge it.  It will be ready when you are.

The Withings Move ECG Watch will be available later this year, you can sign up to be notified on their website.  It is expected to cost around $130.

ClearUp Sinus Pain Relief

I’m excited to introduce you to ClearUp Sinus Pain Relief.   Many women suffer from painful sinuses, in fact, there are 40-60 American who suffer from some form of allergic rhinitis, according to the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology.

Medications can be expensive and cause drowsiness…some are even addictive.

ClearUp gives consumers another choice to curb pain without the need for pills, nose sprays, or nasal flushes.

ClearUp is a handheld device that uses microcurrent, a low-current electrical stimulation used in pacemakers, to lessen allergy-related sinus pain.

It uses only 1/1000 the level of TENS therapy, is chemical-free, and delivers targeted microcurrent waveforms to the trigeminal nerve.

The user places it on her face and glides it along the cheek, nose, and brow bone, as recommended by ClearUp.

You can adjust the intensity level to your desired level.  The process takes approximately 5 minutes, with most feeling relief almost immediately.

ClearUp doesn’t solve the problem of sinuses, but it does provide temporary relief of sinus pain caused by allergic rhinitis.

ClearUp contends that…

Electrical stimulation of nerves has been used to reduce the sensory perception of pain.

Research has also shown that electrical stimulation can activate sympathetic nerve fibers and promote constriction of blood vessels, which can result in the shrinking swollen tissue.

Users can use ClearUp up to 4 times a day to find relief.  It is approved by the FDA and has been clinically proven to help 3 out of 4 people find relief from sinus pain.

ClearUp sounds like an amazing product that will help moms and their families everywhere.

It will be available towards June of 2019 and will cost just under $200.  You can sign up on their interest list to be notified when it’s available for purchase.

Owlet Band Wearable Technology

When I was pregnant with my first child, I couldn’t wait for my next appointment.  I sought out any information I could to let me connect with my baby.

I loved hearing my baby’s heartbeat and seeing her on ultrasounds.

When I was pregnant with my son, nearly 3 years later, more in-home technology had come around so I could hear him in-uterus.

I loved hearing his heartbeat, but truthfully, I could never know for sure if I was hearing his heartbeat or my own through my veins!

Today, there’s the  Owlet Band.  The Owlet Band is a comfortable band, made with DuPont™ Intexar™ ultra-thin fabric sensors, mothers-to-be wear around their abdomen.

It’s a first of its kind and allows pregnant moms to track their baby’s heart rate, automatically count their baby’s kicks, notify them of contractions, and track their own sleep position.

The Owlet app will give mothers-to-be a wellness report that they can share with family and friend.

It’s truly an amazing way to give mothers up-to-the-minute access to their unborn child’s activity.

You can even record and share your baby’s heartbeat and track and trend it over time.

The Owlet Band can be used as early as 24 weeks and used until the end of her term.

It uses passive and trusted ECG technology to “cast a net” of sensors around the abdomen to track the baby’s wellness as s/he moves in the womb.

I wish I had the Owlet Band when I was pregnant with my kids, it really would have been remarkable to track my baby and hear her/his heartbeat while diminishing the worries I had about my baby’s progression.

I would have also appreciated having better information to identify early on contractions leading to birth.

The Owlet Band will be released later in the year.  No price has been publicized at this point.

Sign up on their interest list to be notified when the Owlet Band will be available.

Honorable Mention:

Elvie Pump

The Elvie Pump is a wearable breast pump that gives women amazing freedom and mobility.  No wires, no tubes, no noise.

I listened to the Elvie pump while I was at CES, I was amazed at how incredibly quiet it was.

Designed to fit within a nursing bra, the Elvie Pump has just 5 parts and collects milk safely within the pump, without worry of leaking.

Use the free Elvie pump app to monitor your milk volume in real time and identify trends in your pumping history for each breast.

You can even control the pump remotely with discretion.

The Elvie Pump comes with bottles to store breast milk, no bags are needed.  It will be available sometime in early 2019.  No pricing has been announced yet.

Sign up for their Interest List to be notified of when the Elvie Pump will be available.
