Summertime is just around the corner which means road trips for our family. We plan to take an iPhone, 2 iPods, an iPad, the IdeaPLAY tablet and the Kobo Arc tablet. On previous road trips, our biggest dilemma was how we kept our navigation system (the iPhone) charged for the full day so that we didn’t get lost in the late afternoon. Ventev has a wonderful line of power charger products that will help solve this issue. I was given the opportunity try out several of their products including the dashport r2240 and the powercell 6000+ power chargers.
The dashport r2240 is made specifically for the driver. It features two rapid power charger USB ports that allow you to charge up to two tablets simultaneously using the 12 V receptacle near the driver. Its slim and sleek profile with illuminated USB ports guide users for easy plug-in. It is nice and small making it easy to stash somewhere when not being used. I was impressed by how quickly it charged up our iPhone on the go, even when we were using it while it was getting power charged.
But the powerhouse charger by Ventev is quite impressive and a great solution for those who are on the go. It has a dual USB port as well and can be used both as a standard wall power charger or by using the internal battery while on the go. There is a 1A port which is ideal for phones and a 2.1A port which is ideal for tablets. (The rapid power charger feature of the 2.1A port means that tablets and other high-powered devices charge at the fastest rate possible.) Our iPhone completely power charged in about 2 hours on the 2.1A port. When using the charger as a standard wall charger, your device charges before the internal battery charges. When you are using the charger on the go, the 6000mAh lithium polymer battery delivers up to 25 hours of talk time, 18 hours of internet (4G), 20 hours of video playback, plus 100 hours of audio playback.
When using the powercell as a standard wall power charger, I was very pleased with the product. It was great to have one device plugged in that was capable of charging two things at the same time. We typically always have one or two things being charged and tend to just swap devices around as they need charging.
Understanding The Numbers Behind Battery Chargers
As I was trying out the powercell 6000+ power charger, I realized that I needed a bit of an education on internal batteries. I found that it charged our iPhone just fine. In fact, it was able to almost fully charge it 3 times before we needed to recharge the internal battery. However, when I attempted to charge my iPad with the internal battery, I found that I was only able to get it about 60 percent charged.
After doing some research, I found out that the iPad 2 battery that I was charging is 6,944mAh. The powercell 6000+ internal battery is 6,000mAh. So, the manufacturers will acknowledge that the internal battery will not be able to fully charge the iPad 2 by itself as the iPad 2 battery is larger than the powercell 6000+ battery. My take away is that when used as an “on the go” charger, for phones it works perfectly. For tablets that have larger batteries, you will be able to extend the life of your tablet but likely will not be able to charge it back up completely.
Powercell 6000+
Pros:
- Nice looking device
- Two ports allowing you to charge two devices at once including one at rapid power charger speed
- The part that plugs into the wall folds nicely into the device when you are using it as an internal battery on the go
- Can recharge the internal iPhone battery in 4-5 hours through any standard outlet – no extra cords needed!
Cons:
- It is a little larger than my husband would like when he is on the go. (A little bulky for his pocket – it fits just fine in my purse)
- Does not completely charge larger devices, like the iPad, when using the internal battery

A Mom’s Perspective
Picture this: our family is camping at a campground that has no outlets at the campsite. Everyone’s phones were dying and we were doing our best to use them as little as possible. Our options were to charge the phones in the outlets in the bathrooms (yuck!) or turn on the car and use power from the car (not ideal.)
The Ventev powercell 6000+ power charger is the perfect solution, allowing you to keep phones charged for several days so that you can use them for important things while away from home. The fact that it is also a wall charger is great. (A device that accommodates two different needs.) We also plan to pack the charger in my purse when we do day trips to ensure that our phone does not die on us half way through the day.
When you need a device that will charge your phone in the car, the Ventev dashport r2240 power charger is a great alternative, especially since it will charge two devices at one time. I have no worries about devices dying on us on our next road trip.
*I was given Ventev products including the dashport r2240 and the powercelll 6000+ in exchange for my honest opinion, all of which are my own.
