Zuli Smartplug Control Your Lamps, Christmas Tree Lights, and More!

Meet the Zuli Smartplug, which happened to make the Well Connected Mom’s Top 10 Gadgets for Christmas list! It is small, sleek, easy to set up and works with your Nest Thermostat.

Standard smartplugs offer the ability to turn your lamps and appliances on/off. You can even create a schedule of when you want your lights to turn on or off. Typically, smartplugs also track your energy usage. The Zuli Smartplug does all of these things, but it also takes smartplugs to a new level by offering something called “Zuli Presence”.

The Presence feature uses your Bluetooth connection, along with a set of 3 smart plugs (minimum) to determine where you are in your home. It can sense (as long as you have your phone with you) which plug you are closest to and can automatically turn on your lights when you enter a room. It can learn and adapt to your preferences.  

Zuli – a New Kind of Smartplug

With the Zuli Smartplug and companion app, you can set your house up to meet your exact preferences; lighting, temperature, and appliances.  Using your iPhone’s Bluetooth feature, you can quickly connect and name each of your Zuli plugs. 

Some of the most useful features include being able to set a schedule for your lights, turning your lights on/ off through your phone, and connecting your Nest Thermostat.  Additionally, you can dim your lights and track your usage through the app. 

Zuli Presence

When you buy the Zuli Presence pack (a 3- pack of plugs), you are able to use the Presence feature.  After setting up the three plugs in different rooms in your home, Zuli can detect where you are in your home (assuming you have your phone with you).  Using your phone’s Bluetooth, Zuli uses an algorithm to pin point where you are in your home.  It can automatically turn on your lights when you enter the room.  Likewise, it can automatically shut off when you leave the room, saving energy.  The Zuli Presences is built to learn and adapt to your preferences and schedule.

It is important to note that Zuli Presence will only work if you have your phone with you and your Bluetooth connected.  If you do not have your phone with you, your set schedule will still remain.  It even has a small on/off button on the plug itself, just in case you don’t have your phone near you.  Also important, since Zuli works on Bluetooth and not through Wifi, you are not able to remotely turn your plugs on/off.

A Mom’s Perspective

The Zuli Smartplugs were a great help this year, especially with our Christmas lights.  We were able to set up our lights and our displays using the Zuli Smartplugs.  We set up a schedule for the Christmas lights to come on and go off every night.  It was such a simple way to “set it and forget it”. 

Zuli is also fantastic for lights and small appliances.  A friend of mine has used hers with her crock pot.  She set her frozen food in the crock pot before she left for work and then set the schedule for the appliance to turn on at the set time.  Dinner was done by the time she was home from work.  If you are looking for an easy way to start up your smart home, the Zuli Smartplugs are an affordable option.
