I’ll admit it, I’m not much of a vacuumer. The only time I vacuum is when I know someone is coming over…which fortunately, is quite often. I only say fortunately, because I shudder to think how bad my house would look if I didn’t HAVE to vacuum.
Don’t get me wrong, I hate walking into the kitchen and seeing small chip bits on the floor. Or walking upstairs and seeing little remnants of my children’s’ day left in small pieces on each step. It does bother me, but not enough to lug out the vacuum cleaner and sweep it up…every day!
When I was growing up, we used the handheld Dustbuster cordless vacuum for these small types of cleanups. It was very handy, but a lot of bending over. Now that I’m much older and taller, bending over is not as appealing.
The three things I dread the most about vacuuming are:
- The noise – I have never liked the loud noise a vacuum makes, I really believe that this is the #1 reason I hate to vacuum.
- The cord – Cord management while vacuuming has always been an unbearable part of pushing the vacuum around. Making sure I don’t run over it and then spying an outlet in every room to plug into. If only I could roam freely without a cord.
- Storage – Due to the size of a vacuum, there is usually just one spot to put it in…shoved in a close with lots of other stuff. Usually it’s a closet I loathe to open…you never know what’s going to fall out!
Of course, you may ask, why aren’t you using a cordless vacuum. I haven’t for 2 reasons. First, I doubted their ability to suck up all the stuff our family seems to produce. Second, anything that could have that much power to suck up everything, would certainly have a short battery life, and getting through a full vacuum session would be tough.
The Dyson v6 Slim
Knowing the quality products Dyson makes, I figured if any manufacturer could make a vacuum to satisfy my concerns, Dyson could. And in trying their Dyson v6 Slim cordless vacuum, I was not disappointed.
Everyone knows that the Dyson brand is one of the best on the market, but what makes it so much better? It all started with James Dyson, an engineer with a passion to make a vacuum that cleans like no other on the market. He worked on over 5,000 prototypes to create his patented cyclone vacuum technology.
The Dyson v6 Slim cordless vacuum is indeed slim. The motor is in the handle rather than in the part that is vacuuming. It works great for vacuuming under sofas and beds.
It comes with it’s own docking station to make charging easy. The docking station also includes a port to clip on any accessories you aren’t using with the v6 Slim, so you can keep track of them.
Easily click-on and click-off tools in this very versatile cordless vacuum. You can extend this handy tool so the bristles touch the surface first, rather than the plastic of the crevice tool. It’s a 2-in-1 accessory.
Take off the vacuuming wand and click on the 2-in-1 crevice tool for a smaller handheld cordless vacuum. Perfect for cleaning the car!
Unfortunately, the Dyson v6 Slim can’t vacuum up bigger things! Ugh!
Features:
- It’s cordless! It features a 22.2 volt lithium-ion battery that charges 3 times faster than other batteries
- Includes carbon fiber brushes to remove fine dust from hard floors
- Its power-dense motor spins up to 110,000 rotations per minute (rpm) – generating more suction than others on the market
- Two Tier Radial cyclones work in parallel to capture more fine dust
- Motorized cleaner head to capture ground-in dirt from carpets and fine dust on hard floors
- Runs on battery for 20 minutes
- It has a ball like joint that allows it to be flexible and align with any curves of your floor or cabinetry
- Comes with a convenient docking station to hold and charge your vacuum while not in use
- Hygienic bin emptying – just pull down a red lever and the dust empties out of the bottom of the canister
- Comes with click-fit cleaning tool – a 2-in-1 crevice tool for seats or other hard-to-reach places
- Has a MAX button for even more suction power
Pros:
- The long arm comes off, making it easier to vacuum the floors in your car
- The long arm helps you to reach spiders and their webs way up high…and vacuum them up!
- The attachments are great for crevices and hard to reach areas
- Now I can vacuum the carpet on my stairs and the exposed wood along side of it, no more having to use a dust cloth!
- There are no bags or filters to replace. Just wash it’s filter with cold water every other month and let it dry 24 hrs.
- The v6 sticks close to the edge, even if the edge of a cabinet of piece of furniture is rounded
- Great for pet fur, cleans up from hard floors and carpets easily
- Seriously, the power on this vacuum is as good as any corded vacuum I have used
Cons:
- Can be a little heavy to hold for a long time with one hand
- It can’t pick up larger items…like walnuts…hey, I don’t like to bend over to pick things up, it was worth a try!
- If you use the MAX button all the time, you will get less than 10 minutes of battery time
The Dyson v6 Slim is available at Walmart for $289 regularly, but for this upcoming Labor Day, Walmart has placed the V6 Slim on rollback for $259, a $30 savings! This Labor Day promotion price is available now through September 12th.
Here’s a little video we put together to show you the Dyson v6 Slim in action…
A Mom’s Perspective
Because of the slim profile of the v6, I store this cordless vacuum in a small closet by my front door. It’s a very convenient location and lugging out a vacuum is no longer a big deal. I can pick up chips, lint, threads, unidentified small objects without a fuss.
The sucking power is amazing, it really does a great job. I am very impressed with the Dyson Slim v6 and use it at least 2-3 times a week for small pick-ups. And because of its fun form, even my kids don’t complain as much when I ask them to vacuum. It’s a very convenient and thorough vacuum.
I have had this vacuum for at least 3 years. I have two dogs and hard floors, no carpet. It’s the best cordless vac that I have owned. At Bed Bath and Beyond you can use the 20% off coupon which makes it much cheaper than Walmart. I use it every day for dog hair pick ups and spills in general and in between vacs with my canister Kenmore. It is not a full size vacuum, but I love it. The run time has not degraded ove rthe years like my past Eureka cordless vacs. If Shark made a full size cordless vacuum, it would be my choice and has even had me thinking of replacing my canister vac with one of their corded uprights.

As cordless vacuums get more powerful, it seems like this will become the new standard in homes from here on out. The sales are already increasing, and I’m sure they’ll just keep going up. It would be so convenient to not have to worry about the cord as you go around your house vacuuming.
