Easter is coming! Jelly beans and Peeps are everywhere! I went into Walmart earlier this week for some Easter basket fun, and let me tell you, it was a lot of fun! They had a large selection of colorful and various Easter baskets, a huge 75ft. row of Easter candy in the grocery section, and fun new flavors of Peeps like Blue Raspberry, Bubblegum, and even a new Mystery flavor!
Could the Peeps mystery flavor be marshmallow since they’re white??? LOL!
My goal was to put together an Easter basket for under $25 that a child aged 5-12 would enjoy. It had to be fun, colorful, and have a tech bent to it…of course! To my delight, in addition to the plethora of candy I found in the grocery section, I also found the Easter headquarters area right when I walked into the store. Here I found more Easter candy, Easter eggs, Easter baskets, toys, and all sorts of things to decorate eggs and baskets with.
A couple of highlights from my Easter basket fun shopping:
- The variety of products available to make fun custom baskets, like toys, dress-up, games, tin carriers, purses, stationary, licensed items like Frozen, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Paw Patrol, and more. Much of these priced under $5.
- The huge selection of Easter baskets from woven to willow to bamboo to woodchip baskets! Many look like upscale baskets.
- The 75 ft. aisle – overflowing with sumptuous Easter candy!
- A fun new way to decorate eggs using Duddley’s Spraytastic($9.99) – only available at Walmart – it allows you so spray your eggs with colors, making a unique eye-catching look
- Being a Peep fan, I loved all the variety of flavors, including the Bubblegum and Mystery flavors I haven’t seen before
You’ll find all sorts of toys and keepsakes in the Easter section. It took me longer than I thought it would to choose an Easter basket. There were even a number of top quality baskets, even some like you’d find at Pottery Barn. With my daughter’s help, we picked out a nice blue rectangular basket…one that could be used for multiple occasions beyond Easter.
I found a 5-pack of CraZ-Art Soffee dough for $2.50. My kids aged 9 and 11 still love the stuff. And no surprise, I picked up a couple packs of Peeps. My kids LOVE Peeps, what kid doesn’t? I can’t wait to find out what the mystery flavor it. It’s tricky because of it’s color. Could it be peppermint? Vanilla? White chocolate? I guess I’ll have to wait until Easter to find out!
Of course, desiring a tech item, I wandered (OK, I beelined!) to the Electronics section. I found a great assortment of colored wireless mice to add some nice color to my Easter basket. The mouse was under $15.
Easter Basket Fun
So here’s what my Easter basket ran me at Walmart…
- Basket – only $5
- Gear Head 2.4 GHz Wireless Optical Mouse $14.88
- CraZ-Art Softee Dough – 5-pack $2.50
- Peeps – Bubblegum flavor $1
- Peeps – Mystery flavor $1
- Grass & plastic eggs – recycled from last year’s Easter!
The total before tax for this Easter basket fun was $24.38. I love the color and practicality of the basket. It blends tech (who doesn’t like tech??? (that’s rhetorical question!)) with creativity (the Softee dough) along with the fun (and mystery) of Peeps, without overdoing in on the sugar.
