Finding Good Deals Using the Slickdeals App

Slickdeals is one of the largest and oldest deal saving websites on the Internet.  It is based on community, where millions of deal seekers find and share deals with one another.  Hotter deals are surfaced to the top based on the community voting on the best deals on thousands of products and services.  Finding good deals is easier than you might think.

As an avid deal seeker, I found Slickdeals to be an incredible resource.  I tried Slickdeals years ago but with the busyness of life, forgot about it.  I glimpse at AmazonLocal, Groupon, and others sometimes, but they don’t help too much when you are looking for something in particular.  

Why I Love SlickDeals…Let Me Count the Ways

Finding good deals is important, but I don’t want to spend a lot of time.  Slickdeals helps save time…and it’s fun.  There are a number of things that I found extremely intriguing about Slickdeals…

1. Community – the community loves finding a good deal and sharing them – these are real deals…not advertised “deals” based on money Slickdeals receives from a company.
2. Voting – the community of deal-seekers votes on the best deals – saving me time so I don’t need to search all around the Internet looking for the best deal myself.
3. Variety – Slickdeals covers the whole gamut – from free apps to video games, to clothing to bicycles, to toys to food, to computers to headphones…you name it, there’s probably a deal on it in Slickdeals.
4. Shipping Options – Slickdeals tells you right away whether shipping is free (many deals include free shipping).
5. Frontpage Deals – the top voted  deals are called Frontpage Deals – I love the variety here – you might get lucky and find a deal on something you’ve been searching for…or find a great gift idea and buy while the deal is hot.   
6. Commenting – many people give their comments on the deal – whether they have bought the product before and are giving their feedback…or they have questions about it and ask the community for the feedback.  I’ve read many of these comments and a good number of  people research the product on the Internet so they can answer people’s questions.  The community is very responsive.
7. Editor’s Notes – on the Frontpage Deals, under every product is a section called Deal Editor’s Notes & Price Research.  This is an incredibly valuable section.  The editors of Slickdeals actually research the deal further and bring forward useful information to help you in your purchase.  They may note things like this product rarely goes on sale, give you more specifics on the use of the product, direct you to reviews on the product by reputable websites, or spell out some limitations of the deal.  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this section!
8. Remind Me Later – you might be waiting for a friend at a coffee shop and decide to look up some of the hot deals on Slickdeals.  If you don’t have the time right there to purchase, you can select the Remind Me Later button which will send you an email with the deal URL from Slickdeals later.  You can also save deals to your favorites list to find them more easily or compare deals over a period of time.
9. Wiki Community Board – on some deals, you will see a Wiki Community Board, with background on the product, links to videos, and more.
10. Local Deals – now you can easily find local deals where people have posted Groupons as well in one easy spot.
11. Coupons – believe it or not, coupons are also included in the app, showing you how many people redeemed the coupon and what percentage of success people are having with it.  Find a coupon as expired?  You can let the community know right in the app.
12. Search – there are multiple ways to search Slickdeals – using the open Searchbox, Search by category, local deals, popular deals, and there even forums where people talk about Hot Deals, Freebies, and general Deal Talk.  

Finding Good Deals in the Slickdeals App

Slickdeals has been on the Internet since 1999, which in addition to its great deals, is why they have millions of deal-seekers in their community.  Slickdeals.com is a great resource to check out deals if you’re on your computer everyday, but if you’re more mobile these days…the Slickdeals app is a great resource.

Finding good deals is as easy as opening the Slickdeals on your phone.  Whether you are shopping for something in particular or just browsing, Slickdeals is worthwhile app. 

Here’s what the Frontpage Deals looks like.  Keep scrolling down to see the last 1-2 weeks of top Frontpage Deals.  Each day, 10-20+ deals are highlighted, dependent upon voters’ ratings.  You can see a lot of tech in this example, but food, tires, toilet paper, magazines, purses, make-up, airfare discounts, and more can be found.

This is a fantastic deal on a 15000mAH external battery pack – which will be able to charge your phone several times over.  It also includes two USB ports, which means you can charge 2 devices at once.  You can see from the community comments that they agree, this is a killer deal.  

In the market for a large 55″ 4K curved screen TV?  Samsung makes some of the best ones on the market and for $1,000, this is a great price.  Samsung’s 7200+ series is not their cheap version either, this is one of the more luxury series Samsung makes.

I found a great deal on 3-inch microUSB charging cables – these are great for charging stations at home to keep things more organized.  It’s only $7 plus free shipping.  But look at the extra information you get.  The Deal Editor’s note calculates out the price per cable and the Wiki Community board gives you advice on how to download a free app to see how fast your current cables are charging.  And in fact, it recommends a better set of cables that cost more, but charge your devices faster.

I downloaded the Galaxy Charging Current Free app they recommended in the Community Wiki and now I know the differences in charging capabilities of my current cables.  With the cable plugged into the wall outlet or my computer, I plugged each cable into my Galaxy Note 4 phone and using the app, could see the difference in charging speeds.  So cool.  Thanks, Slickdeals!

A Mom’s Perspective

The Slickdeals app makes it easier and less time-consuming to find good deals on things you’re interested in…thanks to many other like-minded people who like finding good deals just like you.  But another thing I like about Slickdeals are the ideas the Frontpage Deals spur in my head with regards to gifting.

There are a number of people I have trouble buying for and some of these deals gives me gift ideas that would be perfect for someone.  Perhaps I’ll finish my shopping early for Christmas this year!
