Now for a slight deviation from the usual tech & gadgets talk. While at the Consumer Electronics Show, I stumbled upon a booth full of…eyeglasses? That’s odd, I thought. Upon further investigation, I discovered that Gunnar glasses were designed especially for today’s PC/Mac users. And who doesn’t use a computer on nearly a daily basis? Gunnars are stylish rectangular classes, manufactured with specialized filters, codings, and lens angles that optimize to minimize fatigue, irritation, and headaches. Gunnars come in a number of different styles.
As a person who uses my computer constantly throughout the day, I knew Gunnars were designed for me. In fact,
Gunnars are ideal for:
- bloggers
- students
- business professionals
- creative artists
- gamers
- intense computer users
- IT professionals
- video producers
- programmers
- etc.
Staring at the screen can be bothersome for your eyes, as the blue light that emits from the screen can cause tiredness and eye discomfort. As you focus on your computer screen your eyes can become dry and strained. Gunnars can actually enhance and even protect your vision though their yellow-tinged glasses which combat fluorescent light, glare, and even air conditioning flow which can dry out your eyes. The lenses are shaped in such away to reduce eye muscles from straining when focusing the screen for so long.
Benefits of Gunnars:
- reduces screen glare
- minimizes eye tiredness
- improves your focus
- reduces harmful blue light from digital screens
- increases contrast for easier readability
- sharpens your vision for clearer vision
- lightweight frame, very comfortable
- decreases dry eyes
Gunnar glasses vary in price from $72 to $99 dependent upon the style and retailer you shop from. For a fuller picture of pricing and availability, see pricegrabber.com. Gunnar eyewear can be purchased outright or the lenses can be ordered through an optometrist for prescription lenses.
A Mom’s Perspective
I have been using my Gunnars since January. I definitely noticed that the screen seems clearer, which you can see from the picture above showing the yellowish view from the glasses versus the blue/white glare of the PC. The glasses are lightweight and don’t bother me in the least. The only thing that troubles me is when I forget I have them on and walk into another room. I noticed things get a little blurry when looking at further distances.
Although I do not wear prescription glasses anymore (thanks for Laskik), I do enjoy wearing these glasses, as they are stylish and eye catching. They are the “safety goggles” of my trade and give me a ” digital professional” look. Outright, I don’t notice any difference in eyestrain or fatigue, but I can see how the glasses are shaped and coded to making my viewing of the computer more comfortable. I wear my Gunnar glasses nearly every time I sit down at my computer. If you spend a lot of time on the computer, you might consider investing in some glasses to help you with eye fatigue.
* I was given a pair of Gunnar glasses in exchange for my “digital professional” opinion, which I often give out freely.
I also would recommend to use Natural Tears throughout the day to help them not strain to much. http://croctears.com/remedy-treating-dry-red-eyes-artificial-tears/
