Christmas is almost here! How are you doing on your gift purchasing? Are you almost done? We have most of our presents bought, with the exception of a couple of anonymous gifts to buy for some Christmas gatherings. As I was taking a mental inventory of what presents were purchased, I realized that it would be nice to buy a few stocking stuffers for the kids…just in case Santa didn’t already have plans for an overflowing stocking. If you’re looking for some ideas, stockings are a great place to put added characters to a set you may have bought for your children for Christmas.
If you’ve been reading WellConnectedMom this year, it’s no secret that we are big fans of the Disney Infinity Starter Pack for the Xbox360, Wii, or PlayStation 3/4. We knew it was a winner when we saw it at the E3 Tradeshow earlier this year, and it has been on our 10 Kid Friendly PlayStation 4 Video Games and Top 10 Christmas Gadgets for Kids lists this month.
The Disney Infinity Starter Pack includes the Disney Infinity Game, a portal, and three loved Disney characters. By placing your character on the portal, the character is transformed into the game. Mr. Incredible will show up in the Incredibles game, Sulley will show up in the Monsters Inc. part of the game, and Captain Jack Sparrow appears in the Pirates of the Caribbean game. You can then buy additional characters to enhance your games. Although each character cannot appear in another movie set’s theme, your kids’ imaginations will run wild in the Disney Infinity Toybox, which is also included in the game. Here, your child can play with various Disney favorite characters and create their own world, complete with if, then statements. For example, your child can program things like, when a character stands here, they can be flung to another area of the screen. And similar to Mindcraft, your children can build their own worlds – they can even build their own Disneyland if they wanted to. The Toybox alone is worth getting just to introduce your child to creating and light programming. Disney Infinity is rated E10+ for cartoon violence by the ESRB .
As mentioned, the Disney Infinity Starter Pack comes with Mr. Incredible, Captain Jack Sparrow, and Sulley from Monster’s Inc. All three are great characters, but it won’t take long before your child will begin asking for more characters.
My family of 4 loved The Incredibles and could identify with each of the characters in the sense that we too have a younger energetic son, an intellectual girl, and my husband and I. In fact, my son so loved Dash when he was 2, he dressed up like Dash Incredible. Here he is giving his best tough guy look.
I knew that Mr. Incredible would need some support from his family through the Disney Infinity collectibles. I visited Walmart to find the Violet for my daughter and Dash for my son. The characters were $12.96 each, and will fill the top of the stocking nicely.
A Mom’s Perspective
Now, if you’re getting the Disney Infinity Starter Pack for your children for Christmas, you may be thinking, won’t putting extra characters in the stocking give it away what’s coming later? Well, yes, it will. On the other hand, it will also add to the anticipation and thrill knowing that somewhere in the mass of presents is the Disney Infinity video game your child has been hoping to receive for so long. It adds to the fun and gives your child an “insiders” tip that one of their most anticipated presents is coming. I can’t wait to see the look on my kids’ faces when they see their stocking this year!
