Remington’s New Ultimate Stylist Suite of Tools

Sneetches - Star

For many years I have styled my hair using curling irons.  I had the straightest hair around and of course, those of us with straight hair always dream of glorious curls, while those who have naturally beautiful curls try to straighten theirs.  This point always cracks me up.  It reminds me of that funny classic Dr. Seuss book where the Snitches wish they had stars on their bellies like the others in their community had.  They paid McMonkey McBean for his machine to transform them into star belly quality so they could look just like them.

Luckily, we don’t have to jump into a machine to change our hair style.  Nowadays you can create luscious curls without even needing to leave your home.  Remington sent us some Ultimate Stylist Tools to try out at home.  Their new teardrop barrel promises to provide your hair with nice waves.  What is unique about their Ultimate Stylist curling iron is that you can change the barrel with different attachments.  You can buy the Conical Curling Wand or the Extra Long Curling Iron, both of which will fit on the base of your Ultimate Stylist.

Nowadays, my hair is somehow fuller, perhaps childbirth changed it, I’m not sure.  So I haven’t used a curling iron except for special occasions.  So I enlisted the help of a friend of mine, Michelle, to also try out the Ultimate Stylist suite of tools to see what effects she could come up with.  She uses a curling iron or flat iron every day, so I knew if she liked the Ultimate Stylist, then Remmington really had something.

First off, let me tell you about some of the Ultimate Stylist’s features:

Remington Ultimate Stylist Curling Iron (17)

Features:

  • barrel has a teardrop shape to help create more natural waves
  • swivel cord for cord doesn’t get in your way
  • includes a heat resistant  glove – love this!
  • automatically turns off when not in use
  • 30 second heat up – begin curling your hair right away
  • barrel detaches to attach other styling tools (at an additional cost)
  • heats up to 410 degrees – just like at the salon

Ultimate Stylist Attachments

THe Ultimate Stylist comes with the teardrop barrel.  You can also purchase the wand attachment and extra long barrel attachment.  We tested all three attachments and found it nice to switch out the barrel dependent upon the effect you want.

The effects of the three attachments are:

  • Teardrop – natural looking waves
  • Conical Curling Wand – light-medium curls
  • Extra Long Curling Iron – curls for long hair

The Ultimate Stylist heats us amazingly quick.  It takes only 30 seconds and you’re ready to use the curling iron.  And let me tell you, this iron gets HOT!  410 degrees is hotter than any other curling iron I have used.  You can see the steam coming off your hair after heating it for a few seconds.  The glove really comes in handy, but even still you need to be careful, you can still burn yourself.  The glove is really brilliant.  I wish I had one of these through all my years of curling my hair, it would have saved me from a number of burns.

The swivel cord is really nice too, it prevents the cord from getting tangled up, especially when you’re trying to reach the harder areas of your hair when curling.

 Teardrop

The teardrop iron comes with the original Ultimate Stylist package.  It’s unique teardrop shape is designed to give a loose curl, more like a wave.  You can see here, the teardrop gives a much looser curl and makes straight hair full of body.  The teardrop shape also helps the hair from slipping.

Conical Curling Wand

The conical attachment creates medium curls.  These curls are tighter than the teardrop iron.  Nonetheless, you actually can control how tight or how loose you’d like to make the curl.  The conical wand is the hardest to use because of its shape, it goes from a fuller point to a narrow point.  Whether you use it up, down, or sideways, the hair tends to fall towards the slimmest part of the wand.  The best way we found to use this wand is to point the slimmest part down and hold your hair in place at the widest part of the barrel.  As you can see, it makes beautiful curls.

The extended wand gives the tightest curls.  It has an extra long 1″ barrel with a clip at the end that keeps the end of your hair in place.  The extra length really helps if you have longer hair, like my friend Michelle has, and it does well in keeping the tight curl.  The extended wand was the easiest of the three to use because of its clip that holds your hair as you roll it.

This was my favorite attachment, simply because I used a clamp on my curling iron for years to help hold the ends.  I’m a bit of a clutz trying to hold on to the hair to wrap around the barrel, that’s why I had so many burns in the past.  I found a clamp helped keep my hair in place and my hands burn free.

The Remington Ultimate Stylist curling iron sells for $24.97 at Wamart.  Both the Conical Curling Wand and Extra Long Curling Iron attachment sell for $12.97 each.

A Mom’s Perspective

It’s a new year and it’s been fun trying new things like the DIY Gel nail manicure and now the curly hair makeover.  The 410 degree heat is really amazing, it curls the hair so fast.  It only takes 10-15 minutes to have a head full of curls.  My friend, Michelle, is thrilled with the Remington Ultimate Stylist.  She and her two girls have long straight hair that has never really cooperated well in holding curls.  She curled the girls hair for fun one night to test out the Ultimate Stylist and was shocked to see they held overnight .  In fact, the next day was a misty day at school and the curls still stayed with her girls.

Wow, I’m going to try this with my daughter picture day.  If I curl her hair the night before, there will be less to do to get her ready for school the next day!

Now that my hair is looking fuller and more curly these days, I need more excuses to go out!  Good thing Valentine’s Day is just around the corner!

How do you like your hair?  Wavy, curly, tight curls, or straight?
