I am an avid iPad user. I use my iPad pretty extensively at home and when I travel. I have been on the search for the perfect iPad keyboard solution for a while now. The first keyboard I tried, Joy Factory wireless keyboard, I loved it. It was not connected directly to my iPad, so it gave me a lot of freedom of where I could put my iPad when typing on the keyboard. I could also use any iPad case I wanted because it would not interfere with the keyboard. I wouldn’t have to take the iPad case off each time to use the keyboard. It was a great solution, or so I thought. But after a while, I got tired of having to carry both the iPad and the keyboard around in my purse. Sometimes it got awkward having both my keyboard and the iPad on my lap…one of them often fell off.
The second keyboard, our writer, Jamie Wiersma, tried out, the Logitech hard-shell Keyboard by ZAAGG. I remember first seeing this keyboard during a long wait in an airport. It looked so cool and it was very functional. At the time, I thought it was the ideal keyboard. But back at the ranch (home), I realized that the Logitech keyboard would not work for my family. My kids are often on my iPad. If they were to drop the iPad on it’s back while playing on it, the Logitech keyboard would protect it. But what about if they dropped it on it’s front? The glass would shatter. I knew I would need a more encompassing keyboard/case solution.
The Ultimate iPad Keyboard Case Solution
Later, RTA Products came out with a new iPad case that seemed like the best fit for a mom with kids who prefers a keyboard when typing on the iPad. Their new case, the Sharper Image RTA-SITCK02, is an all encompassing case made from synthetic leather and a silicone, spill-proof and dust-proof Bluetooth keyboard. It has an ergonomic angle viewing adjustable stand too. I am able to adjust the stand to various heights depending upon what I am doing.
Underneath the iPad the case has a small plastic sleeve to insert your business card, so in case you misplace it, there will be no questions as to whose iPad it is. A nice small detail that I haven’t seen on other iPad cases before.
The case and keyboard will enlarge the profile of your iPad, there’s no doubt about it. If you like a thin profile, this isn’t the case for you. But if you’re looking for convenience, protection, and a classic style, I highly recommend the RTA-SITCH02. I have been using it now for 4 months and I absolutely love it.
Pros
- Professional looking
- Comprehensive – case, keyboard, iPad protector
- Accommodates for various viewing angles
- Works well on a table or lap
- Bluetooth keyboard charge lasts a long time
- Compatible with the iPad2 and new iPad
- Adds bulk and weight to the iPad
- The right delete and shift buttons aren’t placed properly, causes garbled words when using the keyboard in the dark.
- No color choices, only available in black
A Mom’s Perspective
The RTA-SITCH02 case is a great case that allows me to begin typing right away. I rarely use the onscreen keyboard anymore, yet, you still have the choice. My kids prefer the onscreen keyboard since they are not typing as much with their games.
The RTA-SITCH02 case completely encases my iPad, protecting it from accidental drops. I now feel confident allowing my six-year-old son, who inherited my clumsiness, to use the iPad.
With the self-contained keypad, I rarely even use my netbook anymore. The iPad with this case handles most of my needs. The case really makes you feel as though you are using a netbook instead of an iPad.
If you’re looking for one of the best iPad solutions available on the market and you don’t mind the color black, the RTA-SITCH02 is a good bet. You can purchase the RTA-SITCH02 on Amazon.com for $73.99 plus free super saver shipping.
