Jumpstart is a new app recently introduced in the iTunes store that promises to help you save money by boosting your energy with proven science rather than a jolt from purchased coffee or an energy drink.
Jumpstart is a yoga and meditation app that helps you to tap into your inner energy by following the 10-minute, 4-step jumpstart process.
Anxiety While Traveling
Sounds kind of far-fetched, huh? Well, I am not a yoga participant, but I have heard many people say yoga helps to relax them. So I figured there might very well be merit in the app’s claims.
I have noticed recently that I tend to get anxious when going on and coming home from a trip on airplanes. As a travel lover, I have found this odd, as I am not consciously nervous to fly. Nonetheless, my breathing becomes more shallow, making it harder to catch a deep breath. I feel this sometimes even when I’m home and I’m nervous about an impending deadline or feel overwhelmed.
I have often thought that if I knew how to conduct some breathing exercises, I could breathe more deeply, getting my breathing back to a normal rhythm. So jumpstart intrigued me as a possible solution to this anxiety I have occasionally.
To test jumpstart out right, I used it while traveling and waiting for my plane. I decided to take my iPad out, put on my headphones, and begin jumpstart in the midst of 100’s of people all frazzled, like me, because our flights had been delayed.
For the most part, I conducted the jumpstart exercises without anyone noticing, But there is an exercise where you roll your tongue up like a taco and breath in through it. If caught, it would be a bit embarrassing, but I did it anyways. I was directed to tense every set of muscles at a time as well as a visual practice where my eyes are closed but I was to look outside my forehead.
After 10 minutes I was done with the jumpstart exercise and I actually found that I was much more calm. I wasn’t 100% calm, but noticeably more relaxed than before, I’d even dare to say 80% more relaxed. After a hurried long winding gate change, I found my anxiety building again. Once on the plane, I jump started myself a second time and felt better. Hmmm, this actually works!
At the end of the exercises, jumpstart tells you how money you saved and caffeine avoided, by adding up all the sessions you have taken so far, versus getting a kickstart from drinking an energy drink or coffee. The app helps to recharge you, giving you better focus, efficiency, and productivity.
Before you start and after you finish your jumpstart exercises, you are asked to identify your most active nostril. Apparently, if you’re breathing more out of your right nostril it indicates restlessness whereas the left nostril indicates inertia. The ideal is balance, which happens when both nostrils are active.
Jumpstart is available for the iPad, iPhone, and iPhone Touch for $1.99 through the Apple iTunes Store.
A Mom’s Perspective
I plan to keep on using Jumpstart to give me some extra clarity and energy in the morning with an energizing recharge in the afternoon to keep my focus on the things I need to get done for the day.
As moms, we often get caught up in the frenzied activities of our kids, husbands, and even our own schedule. Taking time, even for 10-20 minutes each day for ourselves, seems like a lower priority. Jumpstart exercises just might save you time in the long run through a more focused approach to your day and a more relaxed attitude, resulting in a calmer environment for your children.
What do you do to recharge yourself during the day?
