I recently upgraded my phone from a Samsung Galaxy SIII to a Galaxy S4, while at the same time, upgrading my husband’s phone from the myTouch4G to the Samsung Galaxy SIII. Typically, I never transfer over the information from my old phone to my new phone, but I always seem to run into some issues like not being able to find old text messages, not having all my phone numbers transfer over correctly from the Cloud, and needing to download my music again from my computer on my new phone. I will then need to download the same apps on my new phone to get functional again.
I began to wonder, how to transfer contacts, text messages, music, apps, and more without much hassle. I Google’d this subject and found a forum where someone had recommended a software program called Mobile Trans from Wondershare. Wondershare is one of my favorite software companies, so immediately I knew I would find it helpful. I downloaded their software* on my PC, plugged in both phones through USB into my computer, and opened up MobileTrans.
MobileTrans Features
- Transfer between Android and Android or iPhone and Android and/or Symbian (Nokia)
- Transfer contacts, text messages, call logs, photos, music, videos and apps
- Transfers content between phones on different networks – AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile
- 30 day guarantee
- Free customer service
- Choice in choosing to transfer only contacts, texts, music, apps, etc. or all of them
Pros:
- This app works beautifully, everything selected is transferred over
- Works across platforms and mobile networks
- Easy – just a few clicks and the transfer process begins
- Everything is placed in the correct places – songs are accessible from Google Play, pictures available from Photo Gallery, contacts placed in Google Contacts, etc.
- Works with over 2,000 smartphones…even the newest iPhone 5S and 5c (see list of phones supported)
Cons:
- It’s a little pricey, but if you upgrade phones often, it balances out
- You can only select items like contacts, music, photos, videos, apps, etc. at the macro level. So you can’t pick and choose which apps or songs you transfer over. They are all going to be migrated to your new phone
- I had trouble sometimes getting one of my phones to connect 100%, though it could have been my low battery level
According to the Wondershare website, MobileTrans is currently $19.99 for a one-time use. The price is $39.99 for an unlimited use license and free upgrades for the life of the product.
A Mom’s Perspective
Yes, you can ask your mobile carrier to transfer contacts to your new phone for you. I have done this a number of times in the past. However, they only transfer over the contacts – not your text messages, phone history, apps, music, etc. Having everything transferred over in one step makes it easy to begin using your new phone right away. You’re up and ready to go in a matter of minutes.
I really like MobileTrans and think it’s a great tool to transfer contacts, text messages, songs, etc. I think if Wondershare lowered their price for a one-time use or even kept the $19.99 price and made this price point the unlimited licenses package, they would sell even more software. It’s a fantastic product. It’s easy-to-use and gets you up and going without a hassle. Wondershare also has some great titles. We love their DVD Deluxe Slideshow Builder too.
Has it been a problem for you to upgrade to a new phone?
