If you click on this, you will be taken to the familiar desktop screen you are used to within the Windows operating system. You can load computer programs on this screen like Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Quicken, Quickbooks, whatever programs you usually use on a computer. You will spend most of your time in desktop mode if you work frequently on spreadsheets, documents, and on presentation slides. Right now, my children are enjoying the Tabletop mode of the VAIO Tap 21, but as they grow older and have more assignments in class, they will be using the Desktop side more regularly.

The Sony VAIO Tap 21 with the Intel i7 processor is the one that I reviewed here, with it’s powerful graphics and quick processing power. It retails for $1199.99 at Amazon. You can also buy the VAIO Tap 21 with less features for $999.00 at Amazon.

A Mom’s Perspective

This Christmas, my husband and I decided that we were going to buy our kids a cheap desktop computer. We like the benefits of a desktop computer rather than a laptop because they have a bigger screen, we could keep an eye more easily on what they are doing on their computer, and they are more stationary. The thing that worried me, however, was that a traditional desktop computer, especially an inexpensive one, was that it does not have a touchscreen and touchscreen is my kids’ world. That’s what they’ve grown up with in using our tablets in our home and I have no doubt touch will continue to reign in computing during their lifetime.

All-in-One’s are not cheap, they are typically in the $1000 range, but they support the discovery and convenience of touch. And as you have seen, the new models like the Vaio Tap 21 can perform as a tablet and even as a tabletop PC as well, making it less personal and more social. Teaching my children how to make and edit home movies will be so much easier for them to understand using touch than it would with a traditional computer and I love the fact that Sony includes a full suite of tools to help consumers make their own music and movies. The Sony VAIO Tap 21 certainly has more than meets the eye. With advanced features like NFC, USB 3.0, a HDMI port, and faster caching access to your hard drive, the Vaio Tap 21 will last a long time. It’s a great PC, tablet, and Tabletop wrapped into one portable package.

Have you used a Tabletop computer before? What are your favorite features?

* I was given a Vaio Tap 21 in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

The Sony Vaio Tap 21 All-in-One PC has more to it than meets the eye.
