Devices and more devices! In this age of electronics, my family has way too many electronic devices! They all serve a different purpose and therefore are for the most part necessary but they definitely start accumulating.<\/p>\n

We have a laptop for those things that we can\u2019t do on our tablets, we have tablets for every day stuff and we have cell phones. For the most part, none of them \u201ctalk\u201d to each other so they all function separately \u2013 sometimes to the point that I find myself checking the same emails on multiple devices.<\/p>\n

Asus has come up with a solution to help minimize some of this with their new PadFone X mini<\/a> which is a combination smartphone and tablet, transformable device. Both of them function on the same data plan.<\/p>\n

\"Docking<\/a>How Does the PadFone Work? <\/span><\/h2>\n

Well, Asus has created a \u201cdocking station\u201d that is a 7-inch tablet that requires the phone to be docked to work. The tablet has its own battery (which extends the life of the smartphone), and uses the phone\u2019s processor, memory and storage. When you are ready to go out and about, you can remove the phone from the docking station and it becomes a regular smartphone. The PadFone X mini boasts a 4.5-inch display when just using the smartphone.<\/p>\n

Asus claims the phone will get up to 28.3 hours in the tablet and 15.8 hours of use on its own. The battery in the tablet charges the phone when docked. The phone battery is removable, so a second one can be swapped in if needed.<\/p>\n

The PadFone X mini is the first smartphone made for the U.S. market powered by an Intel application processor. The device has an Intel XMM 7160 LTE modem and an Intel Atom processor with Intel Hyper-Threading Technology, which supports four simultaneous application threads for smooth and seamless multitasking and responsive web browsing.<\/p>\n

My son loves watching Netflix and we found that the processor had no problem with videos. We also used the PadFone for for YouTube videos and it was quite speedy when loading those videos as well. I found that it was very easy to “do” everyday life on the PadFone X like Facebook, checking email, texting, making phone calls and my newer addiction, Candy Crush. I can easily multi-task and switch between the many apps that I use throughout the day without a whole lot of down time, waiting for the next app to load.<\/p>\n

The Pad Fone X mini uses ASUS DynamicDisplay5 technology to resize apps for the different display sizes. It also has the ASUS ZenUI, an exclusive user interface for smart devices, that includes features such as ASUS ZenUI’s What\u2019s Next and Do It Later. These new features put users\u2019 next task in front of them or allows them to mark items for follow-up.<\/p>\n
