SmartThings<\/a>.&nbsp; When I learned about their solution to WiFi, I became very intrigued.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I love the way SmartThings enfolds smart home technology right into the product.<\/p>\n<p>As a big smart home DIYer, combining WiFi mesh technology with smart home technology makes sense.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now with the same WiFi hubs, you can connect to your Nest cameras, Philips lights, WeMo plugs and devices, and hundreds more of smart home products.<\/p>\n<p>But first, let&#8217;s talk about a spotty WiFi connection and how the SmartThings WiFi 3-pack not only helps but improves upon the average WiFi router.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Fix A Spotty WiFi Connection<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Do you get a great WiFi signal in your family room but a spotty WiFi signal in your kitchen, bedroom, or garage?<\/p>\n<p>There have been some really strong WiFi routers you can buy over the years with multiple antennas that promise a longer WiFI coverage, but still lack in going the distance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-24001\" multiple hubs in key areas around your house so the WiFi signal is more directed.<\/p>\n<p>For example, I put the main SmartThings WiFi hub (from the 3-pack)&nbsp; in my downstairs hall closet, connected to our Frontier cable router.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I placed the second hub directly above it upstairs, right outside of my bedroom.&nbsp; The last hub I placed inside the house, but close to the garage.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As long as the three hubs are within 60 feet (less dependent upon your home&#8217;s construction) of another hub, you should get a really good signal.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We now get a strong signal in our upstairs bedroom and our bonus room, which is next door.<\/p>\n<p>I can also get good WiFi coverage in our mudroom and garage.&nbsp; I need WiFi coverage in my garage for my <a href=\"https:\/\/wellconnectedmom.com\/blog\/how-to-automate-your-garage-door\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Liftmaster Home Bridge<\/a>, which allows me to open my garage door using my Chamberlain\/Liftmaster app.<\/p>\n<p>WiFi coverage in the garage is also helpful for my Canary camera (to watch my pups when they are out there) and to watch helpful DIY videos when working my <a href=\"https:\/\/wellconnectedmom.com\/blog\/technotes-what-is-odyssey-of-the-mind\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Odyssey of the Mind<\/a> the ones you choose to make available to them, such as the Xbox, kitchen PC, a laptop, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Internet Only Access<\/strong> &#8211; you can set up a special WiFi password that they can use with their tablets, PC&#8217;s, or phones, to access the Internet, but they won&#8217;t be able to interact with any household devices<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">You have the option to set up a password that expires&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3 hours from now<\/li>\n<li>Auto-expire<\/li>\n<li>Never expire<\/li>\n<li>1 hour from now<\/li>\n<li>End of day<\/li>\n<li>or a custom time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now that&#8217;s a lot of flexibility in WiFi guest access!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"span-lg-4 span-sm-4\" role=\"option\" aria-describedby=\"slick-slide31\">\n<h2 class=\"product-financing\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Setup &#8211;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Do You Have to Know What You&#8217;re Doing?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<div>LOL.&nbsp; Gone are the days that you needed to be technical to set up WiFi coverage in your home.&nbsp; The SmartThings app makes it easy to add your SmartThings hubs.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>In the main hub you plug in its power and run an ethernet cord from your cable provider&#8217;s router between them.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Download the SmartThings app, click on the + sign to add a device, then select WiFi\/Hub.&nbsp; It will take you through the set up for each hub you set up in your home.&nbsp; Note that the additional hubs only need power, not Ethernet.&nbsp; They are all wireless.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"row \/><\/p>\n<p>This one comes with a base you can stick on a wall and a metallic ball.&nbsp; The sensor itself sticks to the ball, so you can easily position it to face the way you want.&nbsp; I placed mine on a cabinet in one room facing the adjoining hallway to track movement.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I created an automation trigger so that when motion is detected, the hallway light turns on.&nbsp; It turns off automatically after 3 minutes, if no motion is detected.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>I also attached a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.samsung.com\/us\/smart-home\/smartthings\/sensors\/samsung-smartthings-multipurpose-sensor-2018-gp-u999sjvlaaa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">multipurpose sensor<\/a>, that sells for $20,&nbsp;to the double doors in my dining room.&nbsp; I&#8217;ve always been frustrated because my doors don&#8217;t line up, making it hard to use a door sensor.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23998\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is not a problem with this sensor.&nbsp; Though there is some space between the two pieces of the sensor, the app shows the door as closed.&nbsp; But once the door is opened, the app shows they are opened.&nbsp; Now I can keep track when I&#8217;m traveling should this door get opened unexpectedly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"textBlock-wrapper header-textBlock-wrapper--desktop textBlock-wrapper--white-theme white-theme \">\n<p>Next I will program my lights to turn on once I open my garage door with my connected locks.&nbsp; There are
