My husband and I had the most amazing experience at the Elton John Farewell Yellow Brick Road concert last week.  Were Elton John and his band amazing?  Yes.  Was the music amazing?  Yes. <\/p>\n

But much to our surprise, it was the sound quality of the concert that blew us away.<\/p>\n

Let me explain.  I was invited to the Elton John concert by a London-based company called PEEX<\/a>. <\/p>\n

PEEX has made it their mission to offer digital audio to everyone in the concert hall, delivering crystal-clear sound as you have never heard in a packed concert hall.<\/p>\n

PEEX stands for “PErfect EXperience,” and it is the driving force to help concertgoers hear amazing sound no matter where they are seated.<\/p>\n

What is PEEX?<\/span><\/h2>\n

PEEX<\/a> is a hearable wearable that concertgoers rent to not only hear superior HD audio sound but the app gives them a virtual 5-channel mixing board to provide a customized sound.<\/p>\n

PEEX consists of a 3-inch disc that goes around your neck and includes two dangling earbuds, which are plugged into the disc. <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The disc includes PEEX’s proprietary processor to help receive and process signals from the PEEX soundboard that syncs with the music the rest of the concert-goers are listening to.<\/p>\n

A PEEX set was available at the Elton John concert for rental for $20.  To get started, you download the free app (iOS<\/a>\/Android<\/a>).  There is no need to register once in the app.<\/p>\n

Simply connect to the PEEX disc via Bluetooth and the app will show that you’re connected.  A green light on the disc confirms this connection.<\/p>\n

How Does PEEX Work?<\/span><\/h2>\n

PEEX works closely with the artist to provide their services.  In fact, PEEX previewed their technology to Elton John long before he went on his final Farewell tour. <\/p>\n

Elton loved the technology and how it could provide access for great audio to all his fans across the different venues he would perform in.  Here’s what he had to say about it previously,<\/p>\n

After setting up their partnership in covering his tour, PEEX sets up their equipment along with Elton John’s road crew at each venue. <\/p>\n

A number of wireless receptors were set up near the stage that detects PEEX users throughout the venue to directly serve up digital audio via encrypted WiFi right where they are.<\/p>\n

The main speakers at the concert send out analog audio signals at the speed of sound.  The PEEX audio signals are digital and they broadcast sound at the speed of light.<\/p>\n

Can you imagine if you heard the clear audio sound in your ear and then seconds later the actual analog sound coming from the main speakers?  It would drive you insane.<\/p>\n

PEEX uses complex processing to ensure both the analog and digital sources are synchronized.  They are processed at back of house and signal is sent out. <\/p>\n

The PEEX digital disc has a microphone to hear and process the signal so there is no delay.  No matter where you sit at the venue, you will hear a superior sound.<\/p>\n

CTO and co-founder, Graham Tull, a musician himself, described the discrepancy between a guitarist shredding it on stage and the audience in the back of the venue hearing it but not appreciating it as much as those closer to the stage. <\/p>\n

Tull describes our favorite  songs as the “soundtrack of our life.”  He goes on to say that [music] is an emotional experience, the songs mean something.<\/p>\n

With all the other analog sounds from the other instruments in traditional one channel, the guitar shredding gets lost.<\/p>\n

PEEX evens the playing field, in a sense, as the brightness of the guitar and pitch sound the same whether in the nosebleed seats or front and center of the stage.<\/p>\n

How Does PEEX Sound?<\/span><\/h2>\n

With High Definition video and HD Screens, concert-goers are treated to amazing crispness of vision accuracy from the film crew filming the concert. <\/p>\n

You have the advantage of feeling closer to the singer or group despite being in the back row of the concert hall.<\/p>\n

In fact, I’ve been seated on the floor in fold-up seats, after paying a hefty price to be closer, and I still can’t see the performers super well. <\/p>\n

 I find the HD screens are the best way to truly see what is going on as well as the expressions of the singer’s and musicians’ faces.<\/p>\n

PEEX brings about Digital Audio, high definition sound to enhance the concert experience.<\/p>\n

With PEEX, I could hear Elton John in complete clarity.  No matter where I stood at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA, the sound was exactly the same.  In fact, the digital sound is processed in 5 channels, I could customize the sound to my liking.<\/p>\n

The app includes a virtual five-channel mixing board to give me this customization.<\/p>\n

At the Elton John concert, the 5 channels consisted of:<\/p>\n

  2. Keyboards<\/li>\n
  3. Bass guitar<\/li>\n
  4. Guitar<\/li>\n
  5. Drums<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    I love that on my virtual mixer, it actually shows the faces of the musician I want to hear more of…or less of.<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    With the sliders, I could instantaneously change the priority and volume of the musician spontaneously. <\/p>\n

    I tended to favor Elton’s vocals and the bass guitarist but when Candle in the Wind came on, I cranked up Elton and the keyboards. <\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Rocketman was a fun song to change the mix on too, I changed the mix throughout the song.  Time to increase the bass!<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Of course, it’s best to create the sound mix that you like the best and save that to the app. <\/p>\n

    Then occasionally you can take the app out and make adjustments for a particular song then go back to your preferred settings afterward.<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    What, Wear Earbuds During a Concert???<\/span><\/h2>\n

    Now I know what you’re thinking.  I thought the same thing.  The thought of wearing earbuds during the entire concert felt disconcerting to me. <\/p>\n

    It seemed as if I would be missing the experience by having the concert in my ear, even if mixed to my liking.<\/p>\n

    But this didn’t happen.  The PEEX earbuds are designed to let ambient noise in.  So I could hear people cheering, clapping, even my husband talking in my ear. <\/p>\n

    I felt like it was the best of both worlds – having my inner world of great sound mixed with the outer physical experience.<\/p>\n

    The sound was absolutely amazing.  I took my earbuds off and put them back on numerous times during the concert.  There was no doubt in my mind which method I preferred. <\/p>\n

    With PEEX, Elton John’s voice was stunningly clear.  Without PEEX, I couldn’t necessarily distinguish each word he was singing. <\/p>\n

    I’ve never enjoyed such clarity of a singer’s voice at any concert I’ve been to.  It is really breakthrough technology.<\/p>\n

    If you don’t like the idea of using the PEEX earbuds, you can bring along your own wired earbuds or headphones and plug them into the PEEX disc. <\/p>\n

    I tried this with a pair of my own wired earbuds and the sound was still as great, although there was less ambient noise. <\/p>\n

    If you want an isolated experience, PEEX gives you the opportunity to do so, as long as your earbuds are wired.<\/p>\n
