cogs, screws and nuts, sturdy rubber bands, motors, a battery back, and so much more.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Although there are 10 cards with suggestions on creations to make, none of the cards tell kids how to make them.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Creating with STEAM Toys<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-24791\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wellconnectedmom.com\/blog\/p-content\/themes\/atahualpa342\/images\/articles\/2020\/01\/Tinkering-Labs-Motor-Catalyst-STEAM-kit-6.jpg?resize=542%2C406&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\" STEAM kit working\" width=\"542\" height=\"406\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wellconnectedmom.com\/blog\/p-content\/themes\/atahualpa342\/images\/articles\/2020\/01\/Tinkering-Labs-Motor-Catalyst-STEAM-kit-6-scaled.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wellconnectedmom.com\/blog\/p-content\/themes\/atahualpa342\/images\/articles\/2020\/01\/Tinkering-Labs-Motor-Catalyst-STEAM-kit-6-scaled.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wellconnectedmom.com\/blog\/p-content\/themes\/atahualpa342\/images\/articles\/2020\/01\/Tinkering-Labs-Motor-Catalyst-STEAM-kit-6-scaled.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wellconnectedmom.com\/blog\/p-content\/themes\/atahualpa342\/images\/articles\/2020\/01\/Tinkering-Labs-Motor-Catalyst-STEAM-kit-6-scaled.jpg?resize=1536%2C1152&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wellconnectedmom.com\/blog\/p-content\/themes\/atahualpa342\/images\/articles\/2020\/01\/Tinkering-Labs-Motor-Catalyst-STEAM-kit-6-scaled.jpg?resize=2048%2C1536&amp;ssl=1 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 542px) 100vw, 542px\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">My son and his friends were able to build a vehicle, but they did follow the instruction booklet that came with the kit.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Although Tinkering Labs prefers kids to create on their own, they recognize that it may be hard to get started.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The included 22-page provides basic building techniques and assembly instructions for three of the challenges.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The rest of the challenges from the 10 cards are left up to the child.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In my opinion, if you have younger kids, having an adult present to guide them through their first builds would be helpful and recommended.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Once kids build 1 or 2 of the challenges from the instruction booklet, they will understand the basic concepts more to spur them to try the other challenge cards on their own.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Some of the other challenge cards include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Build a machine that&nbsp;<b>draws curvy lines<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Make a machine that can&nbsp;<b>scramble an egg<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Build a&nbsp;<b>vehicle with a suspension system<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After kids come up with their own creations they can send them to Tinkering Labs to display with other kids&#8217; creations on their website.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dependent upon the age of each child, challenges an take up to 60 minutes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kids can make cars, pen doodling robots, learn to motorize their Legos, vehicles to transport their stuffed animals, and more.&nbsp; But you will be able to see clearly how the wheels, motors, cogs, and rubber bands work together well.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The art part of STEAM can come in when your child builds a shell around their vehicle &#8211; It really has everything a child needs to build a vehicle or some mechanical creation.<\/p>\n<p>The kit is well thought out and I love Tinkering Lab&#8217;s attempt to help kids create things on their own by not providing instructions for all of their challenge cards.<\/p>\n<p>I have found with my own son that if you don&#8217;t take the time to sit down with your child on kits like this, oftentimes s\/he won&#8217;t spend the time working on it.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not that s\/he doesn&#8217;t want to try it, it&#8217;s just that sometimes a STEAM kit can seem overwhelming.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Even if you&#8217;ve never built a motorized vehicle in your life, just being present in helping your child figure things out goes a long way &#8211;
