LittleBIGPlanet is a Must Have Family Video Game

LittleBIGPlanet - A great family video game!

We took our big family vacation this Summer and I couldn’t wait to take along our PS Vita for some good quality family video games to play during our downtime.  We traveled via airplane, train, and car, so we had plenty of time to try out a few games.

I took two new-to-us family video  games with us to play.  LittleBigPlanet and Smart as…The Socially Connected Brain Game.  I didn’t want to take a lot of games with us because I didn’t want to dilute our gameplay.  You see, there are so many levels to explore, I wanted to see how far we could get in a game.

A Family Video Game with Pizzaz

Our favorite family video game by far was LittleBIGPlanet.  The beloved main character, Sackboy, is the character you play, and believe me, he is a character!  But a very sweet, charming one that finds perilous adventure at every turn.  There once was a famous Puppeteer who dazzled audiences young and old on the planet of Carnivalia.  Everyone loved him.  But a series of events turned him evil.  His traveling planet of Carnivalia threatens to destroy all that Sackboy loves in his planet of Craftworld.  It’s up to Sackboy to protect Craftworld…and the Omniverse, from the destructive motives of Carnivalia.
Sackboy finds himself in the first task in the Land of Odd where he meets Marianne Noisette. Marianne tells him that the land used to be a dumping grounds of junk and broken things and she was magically fixed by someone one day and has spent her time fixing the other things that were dumped off.  The planet looks a lot better now but the Puppeteer’s henchmen stealing things and breaking them.  Sackboy’s challenge is to defeat the evil henchmen so the Land of Odd can be restored to its recently former beauty.

Sackboy goes through a number of obstacles including jumping, bouncing, swimming, shooting, and more.  If Sackboy gets “killed” he simply disappears into a cloud of smoke and reappears at your latest checkpoint.  LittleBIGPlanet if fun, entertaining, engaging, and even a bit trick at times, making it a great family video game.

Upon completing the Land of Odd, there are a ton more challenges, each with interesting storylines, to be completed.  As you can see from the pictures above, Sackboy is enthralled in all sorts of cartoon challenges.  I love the creativity and expanse of this game.  Some stunts take me a while to figure out…even days.  But this is good, as it adds some complexity.  Usually new skills can be figured out using a combination of already learned skills.  There are also times when you get a mini-training session within the game to help you out.
This is a game you need to see in action to appreciate the amount of detail and fun interactive play created within LittleBIGPlanet…

Pros:
  • Great story line
  • Fun innovative ways to interact and overcome obstacles to finish each section
  • Ability to adjust Sackboy’s emotions…just for the fun of it
  • Customize Sackboy with fun clothes, head gear, and accessories
  • Enjoyable for both kids and adults
  • Gives you the ability to create your own games and share them with others online
  • Utilizes all the great features of the PS Vita like the front and rear cameras, rear touchpad, triggers, motion control, etc.
Cons:
  • Sometimes it hard to decipher what you need to do to go to the next step.  Fortunately, between my daughter and I, each of us, at one time or another, would come up with an idea to help us move on

LittleBigPlanet for the PS Vita sells anywhere from $25.05 – $50, according to PriceGrabber.

A Mom’s Perspective

I love LittleBIGPlanet.  It’s a cute and fun game that keeps you engaged for hours.  It has fun music, very interesting and diverse challenges, various unique story lines within the main story that makes it captivating and adventurous, all with the ease and convenience of being able to carry the game with you on your PS Vita no matter where you roam.  You are not tied down to a console and TV.  LittleBIGPlanet is also available on the PlayStation, but I much prefer the portable version since I’m on the move quite a bit.

LittleBIG Planet is one of my all-time favorite PS Vita games…along with SoundShapes.  You can’t go wrong with either game whether it’s for you or for your kids.  Have you tried LittleBIGPlanet yet?
