OceanMedallion Adds Personalization To Cruises

Like to cruise? Wouldn’t it be nice to know where your family members are or have a drink delivered while sunbathing? The Princess OceanMedallion makes this possible.

Like to cruise?  Our family does.  We have been on a number of them together, the latest this past Summer.  As avid cruisers over the past 20+ years, my husband and I have seen a lot of change.

We were wowed on our first cruise together on our honeymoon but today, the cruise industry has become even more spectacular.

We’ve been on amazing water slides, surfed on FlowRider, rock climbed, swung on the trapeze, danced silent discos, and played lots of laser tag.  We have also enjoyed and faltered at ice skating, felt our cheeks shake exuberantly while skydiving, even faced the ice-cold frost at an ice bar, and barely escaped an escape room.

There is so much family fun to be had on a cruise ship!

A New Princess Ship

Recently, WellConnectedMom was invited for the name unveiling of their newest ship, the Discovery Princess, which is scheduled to debut in November 2021.

The 143,700 ton, 3,660 passenger Discovery Princess will travel various Mediterranean and Aegian routes before permanently landing in Los Angeles in March of 2022.  It will include cruises to Cabo San Lucas, San Diego, and San Francisco.

It will be nice to have a new ship locally docked (I live near LA).  But what intrigued me the most was that this ship will include their Princess MedallionClass featuring the OceanMedallion.

OceanMedallion

So what is the OceanMedallion?  I remember seeing it in 2017 at CES when Princess unveiled their technology in an impressive exhibit on the CES Showroom floor.

The OceanMedallion is a complimentary 1.8-ounce disc every cruiser wears or slips into their pocket throughout the cruise.

It is mailed to cruisers ahead of boarding and contains safely encrypted cruiser information and information for onboard.

The OceanMedallion can be worn as a pendant, bracelet, in a clip as well.

How Can it Be Used?

The OceanMedallion is dormant, meaning you need not do anything to it to access info. or gain entry through your locked stateroom.

There’s no tapping the medallion on a key access pad or taking it out to show cruise employees.

Now you can find your kids, other family members, even friends on the ship.  No more going back to the room and waiting (and hoping) they will return soon.

Use the OceanMedallion to:

  • Open your stateroom door
  • Streamline and expedite embarkation
  • Expedite disembarkation
  • Locate family and friends on board the ship
  • Pay for merchandise (photos, gift items, spa services, shore excursions, etc.) without credit cards
  • Play casino games from your stateroom or kiosks
  • Gives kids a digital scavenger hunt called Treasure Trove
  • Have drinks food delivered where you are, rather than waiting in line at the bar or in your stateroom (think lounge chair with cool breezes)
  • Find your way back to your stateroom!

Walk by a Princess kiosk and it automatically senses you and pulls up relevant information like events you’ve saved in your app to do, activities going on at the moment, reminders, and even the opportunity to play Casino games…right there at the kiosk!  LOL.

How Does It Work?

The OceanMedallion comes with two microscopic antennas – one for NFC (near field communication) and the other utilizes Bluetooth Low Energy for communicating with the accompanying app and the ship for 2-way communication via stateroom TV’s, embarkation kiosks, and interactive touchscreens throughout the ship.

Download the app from the App Store or Google Play stores to order food and drinks, check your account, daily events, and more.

Order food and drinks to come to you through the app.  Princess staff will know where to find you.

With the two built-in antennas,  crew members can find you (great if you’ve ordered a drink while in the jacuzzi!), interactive kiosks will benefit you more directly, and you can open your stateroom door without needing an access keycard.

But Can You Really Just Walk Onboard a Ship?

If you complete all of your embarkation forms online ahead of the cruise, you will skip the long labyrinth lines!

Instead of waiting in line for a cruise representative to gather your documents together and direct you, you direct yourself right on board the ship!

Crewmembers will easily be able to identify you and point you in the right direction.

You will receive your family or party’s OceanMedallions within 120 days of sailing.  Be sure to bring them with you!

I can imagine the cost of giving each passenger an OceanMedallion is far less expensive than the number of employees needed to embark cruisers onto the ship.

It also takes away the pain points of waiting during embarkation.

The OnceanMedallion on MedallionClass ships offers personalization and convenience that is unparalleled in the cruise industry.  I can’t wait to try it out!
