Relive Disneyland in Your Own Living Room!

by Lori Cunningham

Wow!  Let me cut to the chase by just saying, if you like Disneyland and/or the Magic Kingdom at Disney World and you have a XBOX 360 with Kinect, you’ve got to get Disneyland Adventures.  I grew up just 25 minutes away from Disneyland, I pretty much lived there.  I know how to get around Disneyland like the back of my hand.

You might remember that I wrote about seeing Disneyland Adventures  at E3BlogHer, and Disney’s D23 Expo, but seeing the finished product is even better than I could have anticipated.

When I first started this game, it looks so much like Disneyland, I couldn’t wait to explore.    First you can choose your character, hair color, and clothes.  Two people can play at once, but one person is the leader and directs the path both children take.

The entrance into Disneyland and Main Street are a treat.  Here you get to meet the big stars like Mickey, Daffy Duck, Goofy, Minnie Mouse, and more.

Mickey gives you an autograph book so you can go around to the various characters and ask for their autographs.  You can also earn virtual Disney pins to add to your collection.

The Kinect platform is truly fantastic.  You can raise your hands up to hug, high-five them, and even take pictures of your favorite characters.

Disneyland Adventures does not incorporate the entire park in the game, but many of the rides, attractions, and building facades are easily identifiable.  You can easily walk around the park yourself or jump right to certain “lands” of Disneyland.  I found that I knew exactly where to walk as the game path is the same as in Disneyland.

On to the Rides!

There are over 20 familiar rides to check out at Disneyland Adventures.  They look similar on the outside, but once inside, the ride is very different.  Rides keep the theme of the actual ride at Disneyland, however, they incorporate some very fun scenes and scenarios that make game play more exciting.  For example, for Small World, you row a boat across the waters of the world and learn dance moves of different cultures.

On the Matterhorn ride, you ride a bobsled and follow Goofy while maneuvering to collect coins and avoiding obstacles and snowballs thrown by the Abominable snowman’s buddies. This game is a lot of fun.

At any time you can raise your hand up and see a map of Disneyland.  Here you can easily jump to the various rides at Disneyland.  If only you could do that at the real Disneyland!

I love the detail put into Disneyland Adventures.  As I walked along Main Street towards the castle, I had to run around people or they would stop me from moving.  I went up to a mother and her son sitting on a bench.  Although I could not interact with them, I heard the son telling his mom the old familiar cry, “I’m hungry!”  LOL!  As I ran by other guests, I heard them talking to each other as well.  Too cool!

After each game, you get to some of your funny moves and poses during the ride.  Kids will love this.

A Mom’s Perspective

Disneyland Adventures is a must-have game if your kids are Disney fans.  It’s a great game for families as you can explore the park along with your child.  Disneyland Adventures is a fun adventurous game that allows you to virtually visit Disneyland yet do things like fly over Neverland or set up your own fireworks display that is not possible at the parks.

Disneyland Adventures provides for hours of entertainment and it will take a long time before you or your child is able to get through all of the activities.  Oh yeah, and another favorite feature I forgot to mention earlier…there’s no lines!!!!

I have no doubt that this will be one of your kids’ favorite presents under the tree this year.  Disneyland Adventures is available at Amazon.com for $39.99 with super saver shipping.

What is your favorite Disneyland ride?
