Runtopia Reach Smart Running Shoes

Runtopia Reach 2.0 Smart Running Shoes are a great way to track your run and get some personalized coaching.  I have to admit, I. HATE. RUNNING.  There, I said it.

My husband Nick, however, LOVES to run.  It is his escape and his stress relief.  He runs marathons, half-marathons, and really enjoys the obstacle runs (until he recently broke his arm going over the 8-foot wall, but that is another story).

So, when I asked him if he would be willing to test out these Runtopia Reach Smart Running Shoes, he was all game!

Averaging about 15-20 miles a week, these shoes were put to the test.

Fit and Feel

The Runtopia Reach Smart Running Shoes fit well, other than being a bit loose at the heel.  Long socks were necessary in order to not get blisters.

Nick has high arches and tends to need arch supports, especially when he tries out new shoes.  We were pleasantly surprised when the Runtopia Smart Running shoes fit well with no inserts needed.

Nick has run anywhere between 3 – 10 miles at a time in these shoes with no issues.  The pair we tested was black/grey and have a good look to them.

When the shoes first arrived, we inserted a small Runtiopia chip into one of the shoes, under the sole.  It was a simple process to pair the device with the Runtopia App.  The chip, was not noticeable while running.

Runtopia Smart Running Coaching

Once the app and the shoes are connected, going for a run is simple.  Choose a running plan and a speed, and you will receive updates throughout your run. You can choose from a 5K all the way up to a marathon training plan.

One of the best features is the constant updates on pace.  After each mile, the app notifies you of your mile pace.  This feature was one of Nick’s favorites.  Especially on long runs, it is easy to lose track your own pace.  However, when you have the coach announcing each mile pace, it helps keep you on track with your goals.

Throughout the run, the coach tells you to pick up your pace, and not fall behind.  Additionally, the coach will give you reminders and tips throughout the run.

Nick felt that having the stats of his mile split times were the most beneficial stat given in the app.  He was able to see wear his slowest and fastest miles were.

Nick’s overall pace was definitely faster because of this.  However, he noted that after a few runs, the coach kind of became background noise, because much of what was said was repeated each run.

In addition to the coaching and pace notifications, the Runtopia app monitors your foot strike and gait analysis to help you refine your form.

The gait and strike analysis is important for competitive and recreational runners.  Repetitive movements, with incorrect form, can lead to injuries and slower times.

Within the app, runners can find a library of videos from form running tips to stretching.  There is a Runtopia community where you can share your results and cheer others on.

A Mom’s PerspectiveWellConnectedMom.com

The high point of these Runtopia Smart Running shoes are the coaching features found within the app.  You can choose running plans that range from beginners to marathon runners.

You receive real-time feedback on your pace, landing zone, gait, and cadence as you are running as well as an overall update after the run.  The amount of information you are given is amazing and helpful for runners…and walkers.

The Runtopia Smart Running shoes collects data on your run and your form and personalizes your next workout routine.

The biggest downside to these smart running shoes is the fact that in order to utilize the live coaching feature, you must bring your phone with you. For some runners, that is a distraction that slows them down.  However, for the average jogger, it may not be a big deal.

From this mom’s perspective (and her husband) these shoes have been a great addition to the fitness wearables we own.
