How Do You Celebrate Easter?

night before Easter

Easter is right around the corner!  April 5th.  It seems like just yesterday we were setting up our New Year’s resolutions…time sure moves quickly.  Easter, like Christmas, celebrates a poignant time in history.  It is the most important celebration of Christian history with Jesus becoming the ransom for many through His death on the cross.

But Easter also has an alter ego.  Some families celebrate only the Easter eggs and Easter Bunny.  Many families celebrate both.  Regardless of how you celebrate Easter, you can make Easter a time to talk about values important to your family. Yes, it is a time of receiving, but Easter a good time to talk to your children about the rewards in giving to others.

‘TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE EASTER

Twas the Night Before Easter VeggieTales (18) nc

The fun animated VeggieTales helps you have this type of discussion with your kids in their movie, ‘TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE EASTER.  ‘TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE EASTER is an engaging, upbeat story that combines fun musical numbers along with positive messages and Christian values.  It focuses on a cable news reporter, Marlee Meade, who is hunting for a way to help others, rather than the actual story of Easter and the cross.

Marlee Meade decides to help save an old theater by producing an over-the-top pageant but cannot find the perfect star of the show, until she hears about Cassie Cassava, who is arriving to town to perform in her hometown church’s Easter Service.  Marlee plots to persuade Cassava to star in the finale of her performance the night before Easter, hoping sway the church’s attendees to her show too.  Things don’t work out as she planned, but Marlee realizes what the true meaning of Easter and what helping others is truly all about.

‘TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE EASTER provides families a great foundation on which to talk about helping others as well as how different families celebrate Easter.  It’s a thought-provoking 45 minute movie to watch to gear up to Easter.

If you don’t have time to watch it before Easter, consider putting ‘TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE EASTER in an Easter basket.  It won’t cause cavities and is a good entertaining family movie showing how sometimes good intentions go awry.  And at only $7.50 at Walmart, you can’t go wrong!  And oh, there’s more, Walmart carries this exclusive VeggieTales DVD that includes both the ‘TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE EASTER and the popular VeggieTales’ God Loves You movie.

VUDU Movie Service

We are a big fan of Walmart’s VUDU, an online streaming movie service and vault to keep all of your purchased digital movies.  When I purchased ‘TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE EASTER at my local Walmart, I saw that on the front was a coupon for a free digital copy of another VeggieTales DVD.  Going to the VUDU promotional link, you can receive free one of these three VeggieTale choices…

I chose the League of Incredible Vegetables, (a $9.61 value) as I thought my 9-year-old son would really enjoy it.  I also plan on taking our  ‘TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE EASTER DVD to Walmart’s Photo processing department and have them digitize my Easter DVD so my kids can watch it from any of our tablets or PC’s.  It costs only $2 for a SD version or $5 for a HD one.  Learn more in our article about how to Digitize Your DVD library.

I typically take 5-10 DVD’s into Walmart at a time to digitize them so my kids can see their favorite movies at home, while on vacation…or even at Grandma’s house.  I also like how we can easily access VUDU from Tivo or from our Smart TV and we don’t have to get up from the couch to go put a DVD into our Xbox or Blu-ray player!

Family Technology at it's Best

A Mom’s Perspective

Holidays are a lot of fun for kids.  They anxiously look forward to them every year.  They can’t wait to see what they’ll find in their Easter baskets.  Take the time this Easter to cover with your child the deeper meaning of Easter.  For some families this means talking about Jesus’ sacrifice and why it’s important.  For others, Easter may mean love for family or reaching out to others.  Make Easter a teachable holiday, it’s a great annual event to help you reinforce values and traditions in your family that go deeper than Easter baskets and the Easter Bunny.

Have a wonderful Easter!
