Family Fun Night at the Museum Secret of the Tomb

secret of the tomb

Our family LOVES the Night at the Museum movie series.  When the latest movie, Night at the Museum – Secret of the Tomb came out, we were all over it.  To make the night extra special, we decided to take our kids to the drive-in to see it.  It was a bit squishy in the back of our Ford Explorer, but we adjusted.  We loved every bit of the movie until our car battery died and with it, so did the ability to hear the sound.

You see, when you have the hatchback open on our car, the interior lights will not go off.  We’ve tried EVERYTHING.  Now here we were on a Sunday night at nearly 10:45pm, stranded.  We called for a tow truck, but found out there was no one at the main gate to let them in at that time at night!  Fortunately my husband was able to knock on the window of a fellow movie-goer and ask for his assistance.

Our surprise night out for the kids ended up in a surprise standing for us!  Fortunately, by 11:40pm, we were on our way home.  Unfortunately, we missed the sound of half the movie!

So when VocalPoint sent us a note stating that we had been chosen to give a Family Night of Night at the Museum – Secret of the Tomb (rated PG for mild action, some rude humor and brief language) to announce the availability of the movie on DVD, we were excited!

Our Night At the Museum Family Night

To kick off the activities, VocalPoint sent us this box of goodies….

Night at the Museum - Secret of the Tomb Fam Night (2)

In addition, they made available on their website, a Night at the Museum activities webpage with downloadable templates.  Kids can make their own Flat Dexter…similar to Flat Stanley, so he can pose with them in different places for some great family fun.

You can also make color cut-outs of different pieces of costumes from various characters in the movie.  We found that by placing cardboard on the back of our sword made it a lot more fun to play with.

Now, onto movie night!  Watching movies together is one of our favorite pastimes as a family.  We try to watch at least one together every weekend.  We much prefer watching movies in the comfort of our home rather than going out to the movies.

Night at the Museum - Secret of the Tomb Fam Night (3)

After popping a packet of the popcorn VocalPoint provided, we were ready to watch our movie!  We couldn’t wait to watch the whole movie with sound!  Nestled in our blankets, we began the show.

Night at the Museum - Secret of the Tomb (25)

Night at the Museum – Secret of the Tomb shows the famous New York Museum of Natural History  where it’s noticed that the Tablet of Ahkmenrah, which makes the exhibits come alive at night, is tarnishing.  As it tarnishes, the exhibit characters are beginning to turn back to wax, where they once were fully flesh.

Larry Daley, the famous night guard takes charge and arranges to have his fellow exhibit partners join him to a trip to the London Museum to meet with the Pharaoh there to help them unlock the Tablet’s secrets and preserve it.

In the process the exhibits at the London Museum come alive, causing havoc and uncertainty for preserving the tablet in time before the magic ends.  Night at the Museum – Secret of the Tomb is well-written, humorous, and comes with some unexpected scenes of history that are sure to delight your whole family.

For a third movie in the series, we had low expectations, but were pleasantly surprised.

Family Technology at it's Best

A Mom’s Perspective

Night at the Museum movies are great, they are family friendly, humorous, and bring a “slice” of history alive, peaking kids’ interest in history.  A visit to a local museum will never be the same as kids imagine what it must be like after dark…do the exhibits come alive?

You won’t be disappointed with The Night at the Museum – Secret of the Tomb.  In all of the adventure and mishaps, the movie also gives a glimpse into the relationship of Larry and his teen-aged son.  His son announces that he wants to live life and skip college.  Larry wrestles with this change of plans and in the end, they come to a place of common understanding and openness, rather than once forcing their opinion on the other.  Any parent can identify whether they have a teenager or not.

If anything,The Night at the Museum – Secret of the Tomb is a good reminder that even the best laid plans don’t always pan out.  It takes focus, courage, and determination to achieve our goals…as well as the help of our friends to persevere.
