Nothing is worse then when your baby or child gets sick and you’re in a quandary as to whether or not you should take him/her to the Emergency Room.  Often times, when this happens, it’s late in the night or a weekend. Calling your doctor is often not an option.

When I think of the number of times I was unsure as to whether or not to take my child in…or even my husband for that matter, it’s more than I want to count.  And if your child has asthma, you’ve likely faced this dilemma more times than I have.

The CliniCloud Medical Kit

With people’s growing interest in wanting health information at their fingertips, two doctors decided to build a health assessment kit to make it easier to assess one’s own healthcare.  They created the CliniCloud Medical Kit which contains a digital stethoscope and a non-contact thermometer.

The CliniCloud Medial Kit allows you to better monitor fevers, chills, wheezing, coughs, and colds.  Using the CliniCloud thermometer,  stethoscope, and the powerful accompanying app, you can get a better idea of the severity of your child’s condition.  Doctors have used stethoscopes for years to listen to the lungs for pneumonia, asthma, and more.

What You Can Track

Although the app will not tell you to go see a doctor, it can track the history of readings for each member of the family and it allows you to take notes of symptoms to help you remember from one episode to the next.

You Can Track

  • Temperature (thermometer)
  • Respiratory rate (stethoscope)
  • Heart rate  (stethoscope)

CliniCloud App History (Medium)

The app also creates qualitative metrics and notes to help you track trends with each reading.

If you are uncertain as to what to do after your readings, CliniCloud works with DoctoronDemand.com.  DoctoronDemand is a virtual service where for $40, you can talk with a doctor, get help, and even get a prescription if needed.  It is also accepted by a number of health plans too.

So if your toddler is coughing a lot at 2 am, you have a resource you can contact first before going to the emergency room.  Using your CliniCloud Medical Kit, you can let the doctor know your results.  Is seeing a virtual doctor the wave of the future?  Time will tell, but it sure beats waiting with 50 others in the waiting room to see if you should even be there!

Stethoscope

Using the app, you are directed exactly where to place the stethoscope for the best measurement.  The sound of breathing through the stethoscope is recorded as a lossless audio file.  Lossless means the data is compressed so it takes up less space on your phone, but none of the data is lost in the compression.

Recordings are created for both heartbeat and respiratory status and can be helpful to doctors in determining signs of asthma, pneumonia, or just the common cold.

Respiratory conditions are the number one reason for doctor visits in the US, and one third of all young children will need to visit emergency for respiratory conditions. – CliniCloud

Armed with readings from your CliniCloud Medical Kit, you’ll have more information to make an informed decision about what to do next with your sick child.

Thermometer

The CliniCloud thermometer uses infrared technology along with Bluetooth to take instant temperatures, without needing to touch the skin.  Information is then sent to your Bluetooth-enabled phone.  The beauty of this thermometer is that you do not need to touch or wake up your baby or child to take their temperature…they won’t even feel it.

Both the stethoscope and the thermometer are useful tools in getting a fuller picture of your child or other family member’s illness.

The CliniCloud Medical Kit is available through the CliniCloud website for $149 plus shipping and taxes.

Family Technology at it's Best

A Mom’s Perspective

Although we haven’t tested the CliniCloud Medical Kit, we did get a chance to see it while at the Consumer Electronics Show last week in Vegas and talk with some of their employees.   I can imagine the hoops they needed to jump through to be able to provide a home medical kit that could provide accurate health data, that doctors could use.

With its ability to manage multiple profiles, the CliniCloud app can help you assess health patterns for everyone in your family.  And with its convenient carrying kit, you can keep it in your diaper bag, in your purse in case your child’s school calls and you need to administer an inhaler for your child, or even take it to your aging parent’s house if they are having trouble breathing.

I love how technology puts more information into our hands to make better assessments on our health and  the health for those we care for.  It’s a lot of pressure to make decisions for our children, especially when often times they can’t give you the information you need to decide the next step of care for them.

Using the CliniCloud Medical Kit and having the ability to track temperatures, heart rate, and respiratory rates overtime will help you gain more confidence as to when to stay home and when to go to the doctor or emergency room.  Anything that alleviates stress for parents and helps with crucial decision-making is a plus in our book!
