CES 2016: 5 Great Gadgets for Moms

Articles Dec. 2015 +

Every year we scour the showroom floor of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to find the best current or upcoming products for moms.  I’m happy to say that there are more and more great gadgets being  innovated each year to help moms and their families.

Narrowing it down to our top 5 great gadgets for Moms is the tricky part!  Be sure to see our article, CES 2015: 5 Great Gadgets for Moms, from last year too, these are still some great products for Moms, and most are available now.

After much consideration, here are our top picks!

5 Great Gadgets for Moms

Kiba

Kiba Camera

Kiba is definitely a great gadget for moms and is one of my favorite products I saw at CES.  Kiba is the world’s first automated home video maker.  It was created with families in mind.  How many times have you taken pictures of your family during holidays, birthdays, and everyday moments?  How many of those pictures have you in them?

Kiba makes it possible for you to be in the action, celebrating life’s moments as they happen, rather than running to get your camera or phone.  Here’s how it works.  Put Kiba in your kitchen, family room, or any other room where the family gathers often.  Kiba will record throughout the day, looking for moments of interaction and family members’ smiles.  Kiba then sifts through hundreds of interactions and picks the most interesting important moments to share with you.

If you were to record video like this, you would end up with hours of video, consuming up many gigabytes of data and no easy way to find the best moments.  Ninety percent of your video would be boring.  Kib’as patented Joy Ranking Algorithim will find the best 5 memories of the day and puts them into a one minute collage for you.

What’s more, Kiba uses voice interactions so you can say “Kiba Selfie” to take a high-resolution picture or “Kiba record” to record 30 minutes of video.  And if you have planned a special event like a birthday party, you can use the Kiba app to set the name and duration of the event and Kiba will be ready to record and save the best moments.

Kiba is available in four colors, Pearl White, Giggling Green, Serene Slate and Tangerine Orange and is available for a pre-order special introductory price of $199, with one year’s worth of free cloud storage.  Once Kiba is widely available sometime in the Spring, it will retail for $329.  UPDATE:  KIBA is still not available yet as of Sept. 2016.

Perfect Blend

Perfect-Blend-Scale

Perfect Blend by Perfect Company makes it easy to make delicious nutritious smoothies while capturing the nutritional content of your blend whether a large-sized smoothie or small.  Perfect Blend comes with a Bluetooth digital scale that links up to your phone or tablet so you can use the Perfect Blend app.

Utilizing hundreds of taste-tested recipes by Perfect Company’s in-house chefs, the Perfect Blend app makes it easier to plan healthy drinks, shop for ingredients, and track your nutritional and calorie needs.  It even includes recipes for soups, dips, and more.

Perfect Blend comes with the digital scale and tablet holder.  There is no need to pay for a blender too, unless you don’t already have one.  The beauty of Perfect Blend is that you can use the blender you already have.

You weigh your blender container and save the weight in Perfect Blend.  Then, you can accurately measure how much each of your ingredients weigh.  This is important because the nutritional count is affected by how large or small the banana or bowl of strawberries you add in.

I drink a smoothie nearly everyday, I have for the past 10 years.  With protein powder, they are a tremendous boost to my morning breakfast.  I often make the same shakes each week and can see how Perfect Blend can add variety to my breakfast as well as make me more conscious of how various ingredients are adding calories to my meal.

We use the Perfect Bake scale and love it.  My ten-year-old son enjoys baking on his own and making perfect cookies with it.  I am hoping my kids will be excited to make smoothies on their own using Perfect Blend as well.

A price has not yet been listed for Perfect Blend, but it will likely be priced at a similar price to their other Perfect scales, around $50-$60.  It will be available later this year.

Anova Precision Cooker

Anova Cooking

As moms, we are always looking for shortcuts to provide nutritious well-cooked meals that don’t require a lot of time.  It is for this reason that crockpots never go out of fashion!  We are natural multi-taskers and anything we can do to save time during the cooking process of preparing our daily family dinner is much needed.

Anova created the Anova Precision Cooker which allows you to cook your meat perfectly…every time…and without having to watch it or turn the meat over.  The Anova Precision Cooker uses sous vide- a French cooking technique.  Sous vide (means under vacuum) is used in many high-end restaurants to cook meats and vegetables to perfection.

Sous vide incorporates putting food in a plastic bag and immersing it in a water bath.  Water gently circulates around the food and it is cooked until it is just the right temperature.  The Anova Precision Cooker is a wand you clip into  a large pot or bowl along with water to cook your food which is contained in a seal bag.  Set the time and temperature you want and the Anova Precision Cooker will hold the correct temperature for a period of time until you remove it.  The circulation brings the food to a very precise temperature and never overcooks it.  Finish your meat off by searing it on the stove for a nice browning appeal.

Rubbery chicken and chewy steak will be a thing on of the past.  And now you can limit your soupy crockpot dishes.  Meats and vegetables cooked with the Anova Precision Cooker will be a welcome change.  And because the cooking method is oxygen free, your foods will retain their valuable nutrients.

The Anova Precision Cooker with WiFi is available from the Anova website for $199 and comes with a 30 day or your money back guarantee.  They were selling the Precision Cooker at CES and they were selling like hotcakes…and mostly men were buying them!

 Samsung Smart Hub Refrigerator

This refrigerator is a dream come true.  With its unique flexibility, food management convenience, and communication command center, the Samsung Smart Hub Refrigerator is sure to be the flagship appliance in your kitchen.

The Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator helps you to keep track of aging foods placed in side it, organize groceries and home tasks, provide entertainment, and enhance family communication.  With it’s 21.5 inch full HD LCD screen, it becomes the family command center with the opportunity to leave notes for one another, pin photos, show off your kid’s artwork, check the family calendar, and even order food to be delivered to your home!  And best yet?  You can do much of this from the convenience of your refrigerator or smartphone!  You don’t even need to be present to leave notes for your husband or kids.

But wait, there’s more!  The Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator incorporates three high quality cameras to capture what’s inside the fridge every time you close the door.  You’ll see the picture on the Hub screen and on your smartphone, so if you’re at the store, you won’t wonder anymore how low you are on milk…you’ll actually see it!

You can also use the Family Hub for online grocery shopping, manage recipes, and share shopping lists.  Oh, and no more missing your favorite TV shows while you cook.  The Family Hub can mirror the show on your Samsung Smart TV right on the 21.5 inch LCD screen!  Prefer music while you cook?  Play your favorite tunes right through the Family Hub’s built-in speakers.

Tech innovation aside, the Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator incorporates a Samsung-exclusive FlexZone that allows you to transform a section of the refrigerator to a freezer or vice versa dependent upon your food storage needs.  Pretty slick, huh?

The Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator (model RF28K95800SR) will be available in both Counter and Full Depth styles in the Spring.  Pricing is unknown, but I did hear roughly $5,000 at one point.  The Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator will be available both in Stainless and the new Black Stainless design.
