The Black Eyed Peas Experience

by Lori Cunningham

Any Black Eyed Peas fans out there???  Buy a copy of The Black Eyed Peas Experience and “Tonight’s Gonna be a Good Night!”  The Black Eyed Peas Experience is the next band specific game to hit the shelves.  The Michael Jackson Experience was the first – and I love this game, our friends let us play it at their house.  The game even comes with a shimmering white glove!

So when The Black Eyed Peas Experience came out for XBOX 360 Kinect, I knew I was destined to review it*.  I’m a big fan.  I saw the Black Eyed Peas perform with U2 in Los Angeles – they put on a high energy concert.  But how would they rate in my own family room?

I enjoy dance party video games, but the moves and music of the Black Eyed Peas makes this game.  The moves are hip, cool, and very characteristic of the Black Eyed Peas.  I have to say, while I copied the moves I felt pretty fly, even if I was playing in my pj’s!  Unlike other popular dance games, the Black Eyed Peas Experience does not take pictures of you while you’re performing your moves.  Phew.  It never ceases to amaze me, that now matter how well I do in a dance game, the picture that is taken shows me in the most awkward manner!  LOL!

Modes

There are two main modes in The Black Eyed Peas Experience:

  1. Dance Party – where you can quickly play any song you choose and dance the full dance routine.
  2. Deluxe Experience – a campaign mode where you get instruction on each of the dance moves and dance at 20+ venues and music video locations the Black Eyed Peas have performed at.  As you improve, you gain followers and fun fashion accessories to wear.

There are over 30 tracks to choose from.  In Dance Party mode, you can place your onscreen hand on any album cover to listen to snippets of a song before you dance to it.

When you play in the Deluxe Experience mode, you have different clubbers teach you various moves.  You practice several moves first before dancing the song.  I like this method better versus other dance games because you really get the chance to get down a move first before all the moves come together in the song.  I am most impressed with the choreography.  Though the moves at times are a bit more complex than other dance games, they’re just plain cool and very reminiscent of Black Eyed Peas’ concerts.

Looks like I jammed that song – 50 followers!  Woohoo!  Hmmm, now what cool new outfit accessory will I earn next?  You also unlock new dance venues as you gain more followers.

You really do feel like you’re in a dance club with others dancing too.  My family room has never been so hip.  Who needs to go out?  🙂  I love this picture above to the right.  That’s my avatar looking so hot and so smug.  And who is that pointing to me but the Black Eyed Peas???  I must have performed well to deserve that, huh?

Well, the truth is, I have a LONG ways to go to gain the  followers I need.  But I love the music and the dance moves.   Now, you may be wondering, is this a family game?  Well, it is rated T – Teen by the ESRB, due to the lyrics in a number of songs.  Because the lyrics are written across the screen, use caution in which songs, if any, you have your kids

listen to or sing along with. In addition, the moves are a bit complex, so I wouldn’t recommend The Black Eyed Experience for children.

The eccentric and outlandish outfits so customary of the Black Eyed Peas won’t disappoint in the game.  The Black Eyed Peas Experience is full of color and energy, which nicely accents the mod funk beat of the Black Eyed Peas’ music.

The Black Eyed Peas Experience, made by UbiSoft, sells for $45.80 for XBOX 360 Kinect through Amazon.  The Black Eyed Peas Experience is also available for the Wii, priced at $49.99.
