Teens, Social Media, and Privacy

by Lori Cunningham

Here’s another interesting infographic, this one on teens, social media, and privacy practices.  As parents, we try to ensure that our kids school is not posted on our Facebook page to protect our children, but do your kids practice this same philosophy?  According to this Teens, Social Media, and Privacy infographic from uKnowKids,  71% have posted their school on their social media sites.  And 81% of them keep their Facebook profile open for all friends to see, they don’t differentiate between acquaintances and friends, which makes them more vulnerable to the scores of friends they tend to collect online, as a status symbol.

Use these eye-opening facts presented in this infographic to have a discussion with your child about their social media practices and how s/he can initiate privacy controls and precautions for a safer online experience.
